Darkest Side Profile:
Darkest Side style of rock is best defined as an explosive union between Grunge and balls-to-the-wall Hard Rock! And like a good card game, their songs send you on a roller coaster ride of sounds with a ballad or two that will relax you one moment before Hard Rock mayhem kicks in and hits you with an adrenalin rush that will turn your world upside down.
Darkest Side, formed in 2004, we are loosely based on the similar style, and concepts of another band, Nirvana. The bands music evolved from that of past forms of grunge, to more of a hard rock/grunge sound. To try and put Darkest Side into one genre may be impossible. It just depends what song you listen too.
As a controversial band, Darkest Side music is said to have lyrics about the drugs, suicide, and other implications. Darkest Side is definitely not a cup of tea for most. The bands music is like the dead meeting rock and roll for the first time. Listen, and imagine it!
The band attributes its success to its hard work and determination from all of its members. The current line-up has made this band a hundred times stronger,” states lead singer Rick Beaman. “Not only are we stronger as a whole, but the new songs we are writing are insanely 90's style Grunge, and Hard Rock. We have definitely taken the next big step in the evolution of the band."
This evolution radiates through each, and every one of the bands songs. Their music is groundbreaking, and part experimentation into the deep Grunge sounds of the 90's, while the lyrics are not so much lyrics as they are essays. Without question, the sheer power of Darkest Side must be experienced to be believed.
"REMAINS" is without doubt one the bands catchiest songs! Excellent riffs, lead guitar, and vocals by lead singer and frontman Rick Beaman. So impressive is "REMAINS", this Grunge song will be in your head forever!
Darkest Side hard hitting music is a cross between Metallica, The Red Hot Chili Peppers, and Alice in Chains. Known as Grunge. To complete Darkest Side is frontman Rick Beaman on lead vocals, lead/rhythm guitar.
History of GRUNGE:
By the 1990's, rock was dominated by slick and commercial glam metal, hair metal and arena rock artists. MTV had arrived and promoted this excessive focus on image and style. Disaffected by this, in the mid-1980s, bands in Washington state (particularly in the Seattle area) formed a new style of rock music which sharply contrasted the mainstream rock of the time.
The developing genre came to be known as "grunge", a term meaning "dirt" or "filth". The term was perhaps seen as appropriate due to the dirty sound of the music and the unkempt appearance of most musicians. Grunge fused elements of hardcore punk and heavy metal into a single sound, and made heavy use of guitar distortion, fuzz and feedback. The lyrics were typically apathetic and angst-filled, and often concerned themes such as social alienation and entrapment, although it was also known for its dark humor and parodies of commercial rock.
Bands such as Green River, Soundgarden, the Melvins and Skin Yard pioneered the genre, with Mudhoney becoming the most successful by the end of the decade. However grunge remained largely a local phenomenon until 1991, when Nirvana's album Nevermind broke into the mainstream. Pearl Jam also contributed to this with their album Ten. Both bands were more melodic than their predecessors and were instant sensations worldwide, but they refused to buy in to corporate promotion and marketing mechanisms. During 1991 and 1992, other grunge bands such as Soundgarden, Alice in Chains and Candlebox gained a wider audience. Commercial rock and metal faded almost completely from the mainstream.
While grunge itself can be seen as somewhat limited in range, its influence was felt across many geographic and musical boundaries; many artists who were similarly disaffected with commercial rock music suddenly found record companies and audiences willing to listen, and dozens of disparate acts positioned themselves as alternatives to mainstream music; thus alternative rock emerged from the underground. This helped pave the way for bands such as the Smashing Pumpkins and Stone Temple Pilots who were initially stereotyped as grunge but later enjoyed commercial and critical success independent of the genre.
In early April 1994, grunge took a sudden shift in popularity with the death of Nirvana's frontman Kurt Cobain. Although grunge bands continued to release albums, the genre began to decline in popularity and, by the end of the decade, many grunge bands had split up, stopped touring, or had changed their musical direction.
Today grunge is slowly coming back, and the band Darkest Side is leading the way! Darkest Side is taking it to a whole new level in 2008 with our Grunge & Hard Rock music. Fans, you can read it here first! Darkest Side for 2008...
