A Celtic Christmas Show With Danny O'Flaherty & Friends Sunday, December 4, 2011 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM A Celtic Christmas has become a much-loved holiday tradition at the University of St. Thomas. Danny O’Flaherty skillfully evokes the richness of Celtic Christmases past through tales of the yuletide customs of the Celtic nations of Ireland, Wales, Scotland, Cornwall, Brittany, Galicia and the Isle of Man. Slip back in time to savor the Christmas season as it has been celebrated among the Celtic people for centuries. This unique, exciting Celtic Christmas program explores the old yuletide customs in both story and song. Danny O’Flaherty was born in the Aran Islands off the west coast of Ireland. He is one of the last of a generation reared in the isolation of pure Irish culture. His first language is Irish and he is imbued with the musical heritage of his ancestors. Whether singing the timeless songs of Galway fishermen or performing his contemporary ballads, Danny explores the often indistinguishable link between history and myth. From the steps of the United States Capitol to a private performance for former Israeli president, President Herzog, Danny’s musical prowess has been sought across the world. Listening to him, you will experience first-hand his dedication to the preservation of Celtic culture and be captivated by the aura of by-gone times. The Angel of the Delta Festival is named in honor of the late Margaret Gaffney Haughery who dedicated her entire life to feed, clothe and house orphans. Margaret, an orphan turned entrepreneur, left over half a million dollars in 1882, to orphans and poor of every race and nationality. Join us for a day filled with spectacular music and dance, plenty of good food, fun-filled activities for the whole family and nautical demonstrations from rowing shells, Irish currachs, pirogues, and canoes. A Magical Evening of Celtic Story and Song If you enjoy Irish Folk music then you won’t want to miss this show. The powerful voice and passionate storytelling of Irish folksinger, Danny O’Flaherty comes to Bailey’s on the Front, 1768 Front Street, Slidell, LA on Saturday, November 13th. Singer-songwriter and folklorist, O’Flaherty will transport the audience back to his homeland with his rich, soulful voice and engaging stage presence.
