Bio
The band, formed in 2006, have been travelling the length and breadth of the British Isles since 2007 taking in events like the Spratton Folk Festival, the Martin Stephenson tribute gig, CD release, while finding the time to gig in and around their home towns of Glasgow and Kent.
The bands varied musical influences stem from the very different backgrounds the two main songwriters - Gary Painting and Stuart Nicol - Painting began his musical career in the metal scene and Nicol coming from a bluesier soft rock background. They site their main musical influences as people like – Dire Straits – Counting Crows – Bert Jansch – Mettalica and Pink Floyd.
About
Thanks for dropping by our page,
Cross the Border are Stuart Nicol (vocals), Gary 'Sketchy' Painting (guitars) and Mary McAuley (fiddle). They have been together since mid 2007 when Sketchy and Stoo began sharing musical ideas via myspace.
The band are folk rock by nature but love experimentation of the musical kind but most of all they love to play live. Look out for the band playing down south or up here in bonny Scotland, they really need to be caught live to be appreciated fully. Sketchy's rocked up folk guitar compliments Stoo's mighty pipes and Mary McAuley adds the cherry to the icing on the already tasty cake.
