They released an Brand New EP Titled "My kind Of Devil" last summer in August 2014. It was Recorded Mixed & Mastered at The Gadgetbox in Santa Cruz. Their last album "Bettie's Rage" was produced, recorded & mastered by Joe Clements of Fury 66 at The Compound in Santa Cruz. Some of The Atomic Aces influences are The Misfits, The Cramps, Social Distortion, & Nekromantix as well as rockabilly legends Wanda Jackson, Gene Vincent, Eddie Cochran, & Elvis Presley. With influences like that it's no mystery why they're rising to the top of the SC Reverb Nation charts now finally hitting #1 in the punk rock category. The Atomic Aces formed on Friday The 13th of November 2009. Created by their lead singer MISS MERCY guitarist for (The Formaldebrides) The band also includes MALCOLM MILLER on lead guitar, WOLFMAN GRIMM on upright bass, and SALVI SYKO on drums. Their sound is a mixture of Punk, Rockabilly, & Psychobilly. Is this your kind of Devil? THE ATOMIC ACES from Santa Cruz release a new EP. What is the opposite of punkabilly? Billy-punk? THE ATOMIC ACES from Santa Cruz/California sound a lot like punkrockers with a Billy- and 50s-faible at times. Not the other way round. Well, as long as it ends up with enjoyable music, I don’t care. So let’s have a closer look at their latest EP “My Kind Of Devil” from 2014. If you like your underground music eclectic, this is a record you should check out. Xou will find rocking punk tunes in the tradition of SOCIAL DISTORTION (“Let’s Start A Revolution”), macabre rockabilly with a sudden outbreak of fury (“Miss Six Feet Under”), fast horror-hymns (“The Conjuring”) and party music for beer slingers and folks with a certain love for high speed folk (but performed on rock-instruments only). The solo-guitar of “Weight Of The World” indeed reminds me of the shanty “The Mermaid”. “Bettie’s Rage” shows a weakness for songs from the garage. Can you imagine Courtney Love covering a CRAMPS-song? This is vaguely, how it could sound like, mainly because front-woman Miss Mercy has the power to start a real rock’n’roll rrrriot. By the way: She is the former guitarist of the all-female horror/psychobilly band THE FORMALDEBRIDES. The singer and her four bandmates Austin Corona (lead guitar), Wolfman Grimm (upright bass), Johnny Eckenrode (rhythm guitar) and Salvi Psycho (drums) manage to mix all their favorite musical styles together. The band is around since Friday 13th of November in 2009, so it’s not a stab in the dark, but a well calculated attack. No excuses: They know what they are doing. They even knew it, when they merged a ballad that reminded me of METALLICAs “Fade To Black” from 1984 and a following Psychobeat, when the called “The Ghost Of Jameson Jones” on the album “Bettie’s Rage, the ancestor of the “My Kind Of Devil”-EP, released in 2011. (As Halloween is coming, you should check out the clip for “I’ll Chop Your Head Of”: www.youtube.com/watch?v=mo7DTWieizM). You’ll find traces of everything from WANDA JACKSON to THE MISFITS in the six danceable tracks of the EP. Not as obvious elements, that hit the ear directly, but as different spices that make the songs extra tasty. “My Kind Of Devil” is a nice little release of a sympathetic band, self produced and realized with a lot of DIY-spirit. This is why also the raw (but not bad) sound (especially of the distorted guitars, that are aggressive and trashy, but a bit “bottomless”) fits well in the end. It would be exciting to hear, what an experienced producer would do with the material, though. In any case it’s a petty, that there’s now vinyl version of the EP. This would be a nice collector’s item… Uhm: before I forget: THE ATOMIC ACES are said to be a great live band, too. I heard rumors, that they spontaneously stepped in for another band to open for KOFFIN KATS and left the audience enthused. So find out now, if Miss Mercy’s kind of devil is your kind of devil, too. You can find the music here: www.reverbnation.com/theatomicaces For a CD please contact the band via: www.facebook.com/TheAtomicAcesMusic REVIEW BY ~ Johnny Slam Coming out of the California scene The Atomic Aces had a bit of a buzz last year.Known as a band that was very slick and had a ton of style. What many seem to miss was that not only could this band play but they are also a talented lot."Bettie's Rage" is the bands first full length album and it's a pretty good one at that.12 tracks that are a rockabilly mixed stew of country, punk,50's rock and touches of western swing. Highlights include"Bettie's Rage","Rockabilly Burnout","Sexy When You Swing" and the kool "The Jesus Factor".Overall this is a pretty good album that shows there is more to these guys than meets the eye. http://www.reverbnation.com/theatomicaces http://www.myspace.com/theatomicaces Posted by Johnny Slam LOVE YOUR LOCAL BAND BY ~ Mat Weir Head for the fallout shelters, the Atomic Aces are set to ignite a fiery explosion of upbeat, down and dirty rock ’n’ roll. “You’ll want to dance to our songs,” explains Mercy Vasseur, lead singer and debutant of the Aces. “They’re a nice fusion of different things for every age group.” And there might just be something to this. Atomic Aces dissect elements of country, rockabilly, and Western swing, only to splice them together with the best parts of rock and punk. The result is a blaze of hip beats and head-nodding twang, showing the young kids something new and giving the old timers a flash of something familiar. Founded last year by Vasseur and Chris Curtiss, one of two guitarists, both were in a musical rut. Vasseur’s previous band The Formaldebrides (a great live, local act in their own right, in which Vasseur rocked out the tunes on guitar) had broken up, and Curtiss had recently departed from his band Cruz Missiles. Curtiss explains that he and Vassuer then teamed up: “We had jammed together a few times over the years but finally decided, ‘Let’s do it!’” Vasseur then recruited bassist “Kung Fu” Andrew Dowd to provide the slapping chops on the upright. The bassist in turn recruited 14-year guitar veteran Dave Teeple, who completed the group by bringing in Ollie Northrup on the skins. The five began pounding out songs by channeling their various influences, from Patsy Cline and Johnny Cash to the Cramps and Uncle Meat himself. “My favorite artist is Frank Zappa,” states Teeple. “I’m writing songs that lean in that direction, just not too much.” Vasseur agrees, “We’re trying to break all the rules.” Their process has done them well. So far they’ve released four singles, a video and are currently working on a full-length album. With titles like “She-Devil in Disguise” and “The Ghost of Jameson Jones,” their songs are as slick as their style. “I love predictability with a twist,” states Vasseur. “We all want this band to be something fun.” BOOKING: Call Mercy at 831-234-5341 EMAIL: theatomicaces@hotmail.com http://www.myspace.com/theatomicaces http://www.facebook.com/theatomicaces http://www.reverbnation.com/theatomicaces http://www.youtube.com/theatomicaces http://www.twitter.com/theatomicaces http://theatomicaces.tumblr.com/ Dick and Jane Band Members= Linda Xyz: Beats, lyrics and vocals. Wielding her guitar like a carving knife and using her voice as the most potent of spices, she sprinkles her music liberally with powerful rhythms and textures, garnishing it with sugary melodies and acerbic lyrics. As the founder, songwriter and creative soul of “trashy pop band” The Friggs, Palmyra built a working model for the ideal punk girl group. They released debut CD "Rock Candy" and singles collection "Today is Tomorrow's Yesterday", toured incessantly throughout the ‘90s, opening for the Selecter, the Ramones, Cheap Trick among others, and were included in the movies "Superbad", "Jawbreaker", "Lipstick & Dynamite", and "Prey for Rock & Roll". On her 2008 solo debut EP titled "She Digs the Ride", Palmyra flirts with charm, surf rock, dysfunctional relationships, and solid guitar grooves. Her song "Baby Should Have Known Better" was picked by Little Steven as the "Coolest Song in the World" in November '08, then voted "Coolest Song of 2008" by Underground Garage listeners. 2011 will begin with Palmyra on a tour of Scandinavia with Stupidity (Sweden), & the Cocktail Slippers (Norway). Her new digital single "Lies For You" is a sample of what to expect on the next full length Palmyra Delran CD "You Are What You Absorb" due out later in the year. Currently, we have just finished up our Album "A Bird, A Hat, And A Boat" please check out the new tracks on our page! A self-described "family" band, the Midnight Thieves feature Mike PZ of Mike PZ and Associates and Grant Hill formerly of Ever Resistant as guitar and vox. Siblings Frank Perez on bass and Cyndi Perezita on drums make up the rhythm section. The idea of the band began with Mike and Grant's collaboration on the song "Night Falls." When they showed it to bassist Frank Perez, he was reluctant at first until he heard the chorus of "Night Falls," and then he became a full-fledged member of the band. Their name comes from a Martin Luther King reference in which he described the American zeitgeist as "Midnight", and the name is also inspired by the stories of Robin Hood. Along with tumultuous times for Grant and Frank which included a seperation and a divorce. The objective of the band became to steal back the darkest times of their lives and make music that is a positive force, staying committed to a life that yields to love. Recording together at Reel to Reel Studios in Sand City, CA with Gary Souza and drummer Carlos Saldivar and mastered by a Workhouse Studio owner Mark Johnson with his professional credited work done for Warner Bros. releases. The Midnight Thieves recorded their debut album, "A Bird In A Hat In A Boat - Sessions," live and to tape, to capture vintage, honest and real recordings over the span of 5 months and released it with the singles "Night Falls," "Matame," "I Couldn't Walk Away" in the spring of 2013 to mixed reviews but with radio attention Central California, San Francisco and a California tour. That year Cyndi Perezita joined the band and the band has already started work on their second album, in between touring dates, to be released in Summer/Fall 2014. We hope to see you all out at our shows! - Midnight Thieves http://www.reverbnation.com/midnightthieves
