About

If you want a lesson in organic chemistry, take notes and watch the sparks fly between the acoustic downhome duo known as COYOTE GRACE. This old-timey salt & pepper shaker pair is comprised of singer/songwriters Joe Stevens on guitar, a northern California native; and Ingrid Elizabeth on upright bass, originally hailing from the hills of southeastern Ohio. Coyote Grace has captured the eye and the heart of live audiences nationwide with their bluesy indie-folk sound, poignant songwriting, and mid-song dance moves. The two met while living in Seattle, and have been performing as a duo since December 2004. Most of their time is spent on the road, but they have recently put down roots in beautiful Sonoma County, located in the North Bay area of California.

During their travels, you can find Coyote Grace wooing the crowds at colleges, festivals, conferences, coffeehouses, pubs, house concerts, farmers markets, and community centers alike. Coyote Grace has shared the stage with modern folk legends such as the Indigo Girls, Cris Williamson, Melissa Ferrick, and Lowen & Navarro. Coyote Grace performs and teaches workshops in the college circuit, including Brown University, Reed College, Sarah Lawrence College, Pitzer College, University of Wisconsin, Sonoma State University, Carleton College, and many more. Coyote Grace's original works have been chosen to appear in the award-winning independent film "Mass Romantic," and the group is featured in the up-and-coming edgy documentary "Riot Acts:Flaunting Gender Deviance in Music Performance" (Actor Slash Model, Chicago IL).

Coyote Grace spent the entire year of 2007 touring the country in their 1978 Chevy RV (fondly referred to as Harvey), promoting their debut studio album. Aptly titled "Boxes & Bags", the album pays homage to their nomadic troubadour lifestyle, featuring twelve original tracks of acoustic alt-folk sounds, conveying themes of transformation, introspection, and the impermanence of identity. Sales and acclaim were astounding, pulling the two onto the national stage and reaching a fan base that crosses all social lines and conventions.

"The Harvey Tour", a collection of recordings from their year on the road with the old boy Harvey, hit the streets in July 2008. In collaboration with Tucson-based singer/songwriter and tourmate Courtney Robbins, "The Harvey Tour" features new original songs from Robbins, Stevens, & Elizabeth, as well as some old favorites along with a handful of fun cover tunes for a true taste of the live show experience.

Their highly anticipated sophomore release "Ear to the Ground" was released in May of 2009, and was quickly ranked as one of CDBaby's top sellers. This new work is testament to the group's dedication and payoff from pounding the pavement, the intention behind the craft is evident throughout. Michael Connolly (Seattle, Empty Sea Studios) brings his talents on mandolin, keys of all sorts, concertina, and on the fiddle that he built himself. Cohort Courtney Robbins (Tucson) also makes an appearance, bringing her expert guitar playing and back up vocals. A new name in the Coyote Grace roster is drummer Katherine Monnig (Cincinnati) who brings fresh beats that open up Coyote Grace's tunes in an exciting new way. Joe and Ingrid also get a chance to let some light shine on their other instruments - banjo, ukulele, and percussion, making this album as eclectic as the folks involved. A secondary project that came from the EttG sessions at Prairie Sun Studios in Cotati, CA is scheduled to be released in January 2010. "Buck Naked" showcases some of the group's more unique, revealing, and controversial works, and is a fun collection for anyone with a rebellious streak and for those who are unabashedly who they are. Stay Tuned!!
