The word "coptic" comes from the Christian Faith of Coptic Orthodoxy; "soldier" was added in connection to the ‘Soldier of Christ' concept, a true description of what this up & coming emcee stands for musically. Connecting to fans through his honest and transparent lyrics, Coptic Soldier leaves his listeners with the feeling they have known him for years. Coptic’s message is presented through music listeners from all genres can connect to, he has worked with some of Australia’s most talented emerging singers,  such as Kye (From Pegz’s “Burn City”), Miriam Waks and Vanessa Powell.

Born Luke Girgis in Melbourne in 1987 and raised in the southern suburbs of Sydney by his Egyptian parents, Coptic’s transition to hip-hop music was far from the norm. Growing up, he shunned the aggressive, violent and arrogant lyrics that spewed forth from the US. It was only listening to “Stan” by Eminem in his early high school years that he found an understanding of the unique power for communication that the hip hop genre possessed. A few years later, Coptic stumbled upon Australian hip-hop and had somewhat of an awakening--here were artists whose lyrics, views and upbringings he could relate to.

With the positive seed well and truly sown, Coptic felt a need to contribute more to the scene and began writing rhymes throughout his last year of High School. Three years on he has finally released “The Past Three Years” a CD which translates his musical journey since he began, and a completely original follow up to his debut release “The False Start Mixtape” which sold out and is now available as a free download.

Now, this promising solo artist is also part of a Sydney collective, ‘I Forget, Sorry!’, a move which promises to add another dimension not only to his music, but to the experience of his listeners. ‘I Forget Sorry’, or IFS for short, is comprised of Sydney city underground favourites Mind Over Matter as well as rising emcee Phatchance. ‘I Forget, Sorry!’s’ music can be found exclusively on a series of bonus discs attached to every release these three artists put out! Keep an ear to the street.
