Bio
Following in my father’s footsteps, I picked up the guitar in middle school and have been playing ever since. A music-lover in general, I played percussion in the Cape Hatteras School band, and performed local shows as singer/songwriter for the proverbial high school garage band. From my mother I got a love of travel and a foundation on the piano. The result has been a growing collection of instruments and influences from the places I’ve been or dream of going: didgeridoo lessons from a friend in his Australian aboriginal art shop, Highland bagpipes taught by Pipe Major Andy Simpson, saz instructions from an excited shop owner in Turkey, and drumming tips from local Cheick Sissokoas a part of his African Drum Ensemble. I hope the list continues to grow.
My music taps into all of these influences for an eclectic style of folksy world beats and acoustic melodies punctuated by heavily spiritual lyrics. My live shows range from soft acoustic guitar to actively building dynamic beats on stage. It’s as interesting to watch as it is to hear. I’ve been performing for over two years in the Wilmington area, and have been welcomed on stage by artists passing through town such as Aravis, Braddigan, and mewithoutyou. My wanderlust has also taken me up and down the east coast and into the Midwest to play with Josh Garrels, the Psalters, and solo shows at the Cornerstone Festival.
In 2007 I recorded a 4 song EP in my home entitled Winter Dreams which is available on CD Babyor iTunes. As you can read in NEWS,a full album is in the works for Spring 2009, so keep checking back for updates.
I’m always on the lookout for new opportunities for travel, shows, or collaboration. If you have any suggestions, brainstorms, or for booking information, please feel free to contact me at jasonandremusic@gmail.com.
