Q: Carson, Wow fine, cerebral stuff. Particularly liked Orbits and Film Music, but all is very listenable. My question is why don't you put together a group and tour the world?-- M. Donnelly

A: Wonderful questions. I guess the answer is that classical music such as mine is not for the masses and written from a completely intellectual perspective. Any classical composer alive today can't usually survive unless they have a university post or unless they're the handful of super stars like John Adams. The rest of the work is in film scoring and video and and I have done some of that - but that's also among the most difficult endeavors and similar to writing a book. Requires a lot of technology and it's an elite field (to make money at it). So I concentrate on more tangible things like performing, commercial music, teaching, etc. Serious composition does not pay anymore than serious literature and comes from a different place and necessity. Hope that answers your questions. And I'm 57 so trying to make it as some kind of musical star is suicidal - that said I have spent a life in music, toured in Asia, Hawaii, Alaska, West Coast, done video scoring, premiered my piano works in Seattle, taught an entire generation of students, continue to compose groundbreaking music and do theoretical work in new music as well as writing some music books.
