Somewhere between the beguiling dream-inducing electronica of Zero 7 and the musical flare and sharp production savvy of Crazy P sits Colourblind. The studio pairing of Steve Travell and Andy Jones - both seasoned producers and dance aficionados having chalked up an impressive discography under a multitude of guises over the years.

Colourblind, their latest nom de plume pulls together an ensemble of guest vocal collaborations that include former Sub Sub songstress Melanie Williams, Soul II Soul's Caron Wheeler and '60s soul legend Geno Washington amongst the line-up.

Opening with a modern day folk interpretation of Roberta Flack's finest five minute, "The First Time", Melanie Williams' melodramatic delivery is blended with unfussed warm ambience, subtle touches of analogue electronica and acoustic strumming; sung with so much heartfelt passion and emotion that it could melt the polar icecaps! Williams, who previously enjoyed solo success with Joe Roberts, also features on the midtempo dancer "Keep It Real" - a rich and subtle pairing of blessed-out beats, sharp musicianship and lazy grooves.

It epitomises the Colourblind sound, which is further reinforced by John Okane oak-smoked deliver on a trio of cuts that ooze of a timeless quality fused. "This I Know", "Establish A Connection" and "Butterfly" perfectly suiting Okane's almost Chris Rae-like delivery underscored with Balearic-kissed beats.

Tempos at best are never more then toe tapping: Caron Wheeler's lone contribute, the attention grabbing "Home", epitomising Colourblind's unhurried sound. The Soul II Soul singer shows her star quality here and why she remains one of the most gifted British soul singers to emerge in the last two decades. "Steal You Away" eases the beats up a notch over a deep insinuating house groove that marks the return of '60s soul shouter Geno Washington. His rich bluesy vocal perfectly suiting the sparse arrangement of the track with echoes of Bobby Womack warm velvety nuances.

Of the newcomers featured Colourblind have unearthed a burgeoning new star in Craig Lancaster who features on the hip swaying "Walkin'" - a beautifully crafted deep and metaphorically rich song that harks back to the conceptual days of the roots of the movement called house.

"Loveseesnocolour" can best be described as tautology in motion: the complex and simple rolled into one. The art of true greatness is making the hard look simple, and this the act do with much aplomb. As with the aforementioned Crazy Penis, Zero 7 and even Neon Heights, Colourblind's music is bio-conceptual, with their album best viewed as a whole, rather then dissected into edible three-minute radio edits. Yet that won't stop almost every track on this kaleidoscopic soundscape of sonic textures (particularly "Timeless" and "Stay") being a candidate for the next twelve months worth of Chill Out collections.
