Bio
Robert Drury makes music in Rochester - where reality sets in.
About
Color Sounds is the alias of Robert Drury, a musician in Rochester, NY. His past musical ventures include Que Pasa & Orion STO with Nick Baish and original scores for motion pictures including John Yost's Every Good Thing to Rust and The Brave and the Kind. In 2007, he took on the alias of Color Sounds for his most recent musical work, which features sampling and live effects processing.
In September 2009, Robert began a new musical venture alongside Color Sounds named 'Deep Dickens'. The Deep Dickens demos reflect a move towards a more conventional dance music sensibility with touches of deep house and minimal house. Robert plans on continuing Color Sounds and Deep Dickens with more frequent releases of material in the next few months. Robert has also been performing with the Rochester Killharmonic, an improvisational music collective that gathers once a week for 4 hour performance.
In June 2009, Color Sounds released another EP of four tracks named 'Bazuti'. 'Climate Camp' and 'Impossible Hair' carry the Color Sounds synthesized aesthetic further in the tradition of the 'Size' EP while 'Queer Love' and 'Crosswords' feature electronic guitar and other instruments in a supersaturated indiepop treatment with tinges of lo-fi production.
In early 2009, Robert committed to three short film scores, including Ryan Suits' Perspective. A long-distance musical collaboration with Adapted for the Screen and Centennial producer Tom Starkweather also yielded 'TSELEV8'.
In November 2008, Color Sounds released an EP of four tracks named 'Size'. 'Size' features more of a modern club sound with the exception of the minimal, spatial quality of 'point of entry.'
In July 2008, Color Sounds released an LP titled 'Another Media is Possible'. The album features indie-inspired guitar on "Eye Tyrant", "Nice Folks" and "Marginpole" while tracks such as "objectivity" and "yellow" are firmly rooted in the electronic tradition.
In January 2008, Color Sounds released an EP featuring cover versions of songs from underground bands that played in the Greater Rochester area from 2003-2008. The EP is called 'HISTORIES'.
