About
I am a jazz tenor saxophonist, influenced by legends such as Dexter Gordon, contemporaries like Branford Marsalis, and the timeless quest: to make art that is culturally relevant, inherently personal, and ceaselessly creative.
My current focus has been on taking the timeline of 20th-Century jazz and figure out how I relate to it, and how it relates to the 21st Century. I think the nature of improvisation needs to remain. And the spirit of every bandmember having a fluid, unique voice which is part of a cohesive whole.
Obviously, the world is going digital, and the digital world is connecting the globe like never before. So "World Music," is just way too vague, and people want the real thing. And music is truly a worldwide event. Everywhere you may go, there is music. So incorporating our shared traits is just as easy as sharing our music.
As far as technology is concerned, I was "raised on Atari." Well, actually an Intellivision, but you understand. I love computers and gadgets just 'cause. Nuff said. However, after years of piano lessons (and DX7 improv sessions), I switched to the sax at the tender age of 9. I've been playing the 25 years ever since. And gigging since I was 15.
I have been incorporating the Yamaha WX5 wind synth into my compositions. All of the music can be played with either traditional tenor OR digital sax. The result of choosing the instrumentation just tips the scales a little towards either side of the Jazz/Rock pendulum. I hope you enjoy, some art is born-whole, others are perennial works in progress. I have no shame in presenting you this music, for it is what it is. As it is inherently improvisational, every version is it's own thang, so just let me know if you like, or if you don't.
I suppose most of the music you hear on this site may be of the early-70s Miles Davis Jack Johnson variety. I will upload some straight-ahead just to keep you current with that side of things. I hope you enjoy the music and the videos. And don't forget to click some of the artists I recommend, you never know where in the world you may find them!
