SURROUNDED BY THIEVES BATTLE BORN COASTAL GRIS $5 DOORS: 9 PM / SHOW: 10 PM “Punk’s Not Dead” When The Exploited sang those words in 1981, it was a declaration from the last group of punk rock survivors to make their presence known before it was too late. 30 years later, the battle cry for true punk rockers is not coming from the UK or New York City, but from Sin City itself, as Las Vegas’ SURROUNDED BY THIEVES (SBT) have arrived to deliver music that issues a hard-hitting, yet energetic and melodic, statement that stays true to a form of music that today bears little resemblance to that which took over the world in the late 70’s. Formed in 2010, SBT (which consists of Brandon Buck on vocals, Andy Harrison on guitar and vocals, Chris Chamberlain on bass and vocals, and Rich Castro on drums) unleashes politically driven and personally motivated punk rock that embraces the roughneck, punching and kicking style that has somehow been lost in today’s pop-dominated world, and music fans around Nevada have responded to high energy sets that have made the band a must see. Evoking the sound and feel of Pennywise, the style and energy of The Ramones, and the driving ballads of Social Distortion, SBT will release their first CD, Prophecies of Greed, on November 25th. Containing 13 blistering and eclectic tracks that feature topical lyrics and undeniable hooks, this debut effort is already a hit among reviewers. Said Jason Bracelin of the Las Vegas Review-Journal, “This is a backs-against-the-wall kind of record, something to be blasted to make the neighbors as pissed off as SBT often sounds... Prepare to break a sweat -- or a few knuckles.” Hitting the road as often as possible in late-2011 and 2012, Surrounded by Thieves stands for what punk rock used to be, proving that Punk’s Not Dead – it’s still very much alive and well, at least in Las Vegas. BATTLE BORN was formed in 2006 by three high school and college friends. Drawing influence from a wide range of punk, alternative, metal and hardcore, Chad, Nick, and Waddle set out to make their mark on Las Vegas. After two years as a three piece ensemble, Battle Born acquired a new bass player in Ben Hernandez. With Ben's experience and Waddle taking on rhythm guitar duties, the band continued to crank out high energy music. Battle Born released their first full length album in the summer of '09. Produced by Paul Miner (of Death by Stereo), "Stick To Your Guns" is a scathing tribute to aggressive music and life in Las Vegas. The album is characterized by fast and melodic rhythms, complimented by Chad's masterful shredding and fierce growl. Between recording and release, rhythm guitar player Adam Waddle was replaced by John Brown, a relative newbie to the Vegas music scene. John's combination of guitar technique and aptitude for harmony have added a new layer that shines through in the band's new material. The band is currently writing music for the next full length, to be recorded in the winter of 2010. In late 2009 Battle Born agreed to affiliate with Felony Records out of Southern California. Felony current helps to book, promote and distribute merchandise and music. Battle Born has played extensively throughout the Vegas Valley in addition to touring and appearances along the west coast. Locally the band has been featured at stages including The Joint, Wasted Space and The House of Blues. They have shared the stage with The Offspring, Death By Stereo, FEAR, and Angry Samoans. COASTAL GRIS is a 5-piece punk band that came together in June 2010 emerging from the central San Diego beach communities out of the desire to write and perform fast music with energy, intensity, and solid hooks. Our band includes two East Coast transplants, two So-Cal kids, and a guy from Texas. The irony of the dichotomy between some of our rigid day occupations (High School Math Teacher, Law Enforcement) and our music that expresses frustration with the system is not lost on us. We grew up listening to and are certainly influenced by bands such as Bad Religion, NOFX, Pennywise, TSOL, Minor Threat, The Ramones, Suicidal Tendencies, etc. We are trying to create a unique sound while still staying true to the punk fundamentals that made us want to play music in the first place. Our lyrics deal with challenging social norms, expressing personal frustration, overcoming personal setbacks, and maintaining positive focus with persistence and resiliency. At a CG show, you will always get maximum effort from the band and we will do all we can to get the audience moving and singing (and yelling) along. Our main goal is always to write good songs and put on high-energy live shows. We hope one of our tunes will stick in your head.
