Bio

CMASH is a new-music repertory group dedicated to fostering and sustaining long-term collaborative relationships between composers and performers. Our creative product emerges from a joining of academic and mainstream sensibilities with a commitment to audience engagement and satisfaction. Through educational programming and outreach activities, we will infuse the contemporary music community with fresh interest and talent.

About

Vision Statement:

In the cmash collaborative model, composers and performers learn from and inspire one another in creative synergy.  This cultivates a deep, mutual investment in resulting repertoire. cmash invites its members and associating artists to draw on the fullness of one another’s talents, resources and personal visions in crafting new works. Ultimately, the collaborative rapport between composer and performer becomes intrinsic to an audience's experience of new music.

We Believe:

The fundamental role of music is to communicate. In every performance there exists the potential for an organic, spiritual connection between listeners, performers and composers. With informative and innovative concert programming, cmash engages audiences of diverse backgrounds and musical experience levels in a dynamic exchange of ideas and emotions.

Composers are most successful when they write from a place of honesty. A noncompetitive, supportive environment is the ideal creative space for artists to do their best work. cmash encourages artists to conduct themselves with integrity and goodwill toward one another regardless of aesthetic perspective, academic affiliation, or material accomplishment.

Musical works mature over multiple performances. Premieres are a thrilling and vital part of our work, but first performances needn't be the only performances. To this end, cmash will cultivate a network of performers in locations throughout the United States, providing composers the opportunity to develop fan bases in different communities.

Contemporary works are written by and for contemporary people. Seeking to connect with listeners and to draw out the potential creativity in young writers and musicians, CMASH artists and composers offer masterclasses, seminars, and workshops in the collaborative process.

Personal health and well-being are integral to artistic success. We strive to create business and creative models in which health and well-being are equally important as professional development, material productivity, and financial gain.
