About

Instrumentation
Toby Forrest (Vocals) -  After a 1998 diving accident in the Grand Canyon left him a C-5 quadriplegic, Tobias bounced back with a positive sense of humor and a hunger to create. In addition to being a singer, he is a professional actor and an advocate for disability employment in the arts. While attending college in Northern Arizona, he met Jeff and found music as his passion. A short while after his accident, Tobias moved to Florida and got a Masters in Psychology. He moved to LA in 2003 to get involved with spinal cord research at UCLA while pursuing the gift of entertainment. He  knows the value of opportunity and is honored to play with the talented musicians of Cityzen.

Jeff Line (Guitar/Backing Vocals) - After working a 9-5 job for five years Jeff could not resist his true passion to be a full time musician. He's inspired by artists such as Muddy Waters, Eric Clapton,The Beatles, Led Zeppelin, RHCP, and Metallica just to name a few. In high school he played in an AC/DC-Metallica cover band where he discovered the thrills of playing live. He attended Northern Arizona University where he met Toby and they played in bands together at local clubs and parties. In 2005, Jeff moved to LA so he could attend music school to study jazz, classical, theory, and sound engineering. There he met Nick, Tristen, and Max while assisting with recording sessions at school.

Nick Woods (Drums) - Nick was a chip shot away from trading in his drum sticks for a 3 wood to pursuit a career in professional golf. That is until he heard Jon Theodore play drums for The Mars Volta. After that, he was hooked and decided to attend music school where he was a top student in his graduating class. Nick was born in Santa Monica and grew up in, well, the list is long. He's a truly gifted and talented drummer. Nick can hold down any beat from smooth jazz, to a chaotic Mars Volta odd meter drum fill. He also plays with other bands including a musical collaboration with his brother Chris.

Chris Woods (Keyboards) - Chris is the newest addition to the band joining in July 2008. Chris has always been a passionate musician and has expressed his love for music through playing piano since he was about 10 years old. Until joining Cityzen, Chris has played solo as a contemporary composer writing his own music and showcasing his work at local Church's and Yacht Clubs up in the San Francisco Bay Area. He could never read music, even after years of training with an instructor, so he learned to develop his ear and plays all his music either from memory, or just by improvisation. Because he never learned how to read sheet music, going to a music school was not something he considered. Thats where his other talent came in, and Chris moved down to the Los Angeles area in fall 2004 to attend film school at California Institute of the Arts in Valencia, CA. There he grew to be a cinematographer and when he is not rocking out on the keyboards, he is shooting films, music videos, documentaries, and other things as well. Also in his time at Cal Arts, he did some composition work on the side and scored a couple student films and animation pieces made by other Cal Arts Students. Chris is certain that music will always be a part of his life, and that includes Cityzen and its family of musicians that now have one more devoted musician to call their own.

Nick Lopez (Bass) - Nick Lopez joined the band in late 2008 after former Bass player Max Kutzman moved back home to Montana. Nick definitely has the rock edge to be a Cityzen player, and the shows with him so far have proved successful. Time will only tell what this crazy 6-String Bass player may have in store for Cityzen.

Tristan Cannizzaro (Former Guitar Player) - You have to see this guy play live, he defines stage presence. Tristan was born and raised in Sitka, a small fishing town on an Alaskan island, along with his 6 siblings. His favorite color is orange, which might be an understatement because he wears orange shoes and an orange jumpsuit along with his orange guitar when he plays live. He learned how to play guitar from a local funk musician and by playing along with James Brown and Dr. Dre CDs. He has more groove than a vinyl record and uses effects that will melt your mind. Tristan can lay down a funky rhythm at the drop of a hat, or melodic hook that just sticks in your head all day. He plays in other projects and creates awesome beats. One of his other projects will be taking him to Miami and away from Cityzen unfortunately, but we will never forget how awesome Tristan Cannizzaro was on stage shredding it up. He will always be a part of Cityzen.

Max Kutzman (Former Bass Player) - Max was born in the ski resort town of Whitefish, Montana.  His first musical experiences consisted of 'jamming' around campfires with friends.  At age 14 he bagan to study music seriously.  Max briefly studied various instruments such as Congas, Guitar, Mandolin, and Clarinet before finding his calling in the Electric Bass.  Fueled by an intense desire to accel on his instrument, Max moved to Los Angeles and studied at Musicians Institute.  While attending MI, he met Nick Woods in a traditional jazz ensemble.  Nick introduced him to the world of Cityzen.  He hasn't been the same since.
