Christmas Jug Band at Zodiacs Holiday Party w/FestiVox 12/19 Petaluma, CA. Zodiacs Holiday Party with the CJB & Festivox! (see below) It's almost that time of year again and the Christmas Jug Band threatens to darken the door of Zodiacs in Petaluma for a debut in that new nightspot on friday, December 19. This irreverent crewe of stalwart purveyors of the jugabilly mystique is a seasonal assemblage of musical misfits of Commander Cody alumni and others from various notable Bay Area aggregations. What got started from a Wild Turkey-inspired momentary lapse of sanity is now, four albums and 35+ years of fruitcakes later, an unconventional holiday tradition of highly skewed merriment. The band has sold over 25,000 albums to date, mostly all over the west coast, with international distribution for all five releases and has had tracks appear on several compilation albums by Rhino, Sony, Trikont (Germany), Philter (Japan) and had a track on the NBC prime-time TV show, "My Name Is Earl." One never knows exactly what form this 100% acoustic folk-skiffle-swing jug band will take from one season to the next, but those who attend will get a full dose of tongue-in-cheek holiday highjinks. Likely suspects for this year's Sustainable Jugology Tour are: Austin deLone (Elvis Costello, Fabulous Thunderbirds), Paul Rogers (Those Darn Accordions), Tim Eschliman (Etta James, Jesse Colin Young, Rhythmtown-Jive), Ken "Snakebite" Jacobs (Kinky Friedman, New Orleans Nightcrawlers), Gregory Leroy Dewey (Country Joe & The Fish, Mad River), and Blake Richardson (Bobby Hebb) and Nicholas Q Dewey. Concurrently, their NEW "best of" CD, "Jugology" is just out for holiday season 2014 on Globe Records. "The kings of 100% acoustic folk-skiffle-swing holiday highjinks" "Stalwart purveyors of the jugabilly mystique! A tongue-in-cheek seasonal convergence of San Francisco Bay Area luminaries. Christmas Jug Band at The Freight, Berkeley, CA Tues Dec 16. The Christmas Jug Band brings together an all-star crew of clever and crafty Bay Area musicians for a tongue-in-cheek celebration of the season to be jolly! They have a new album, Jugology, featuring old favorites from their classic Christmas albums of yore, Mistletoe Jam, Tree-Side Hoot, Rhythm on the Roof, Uncorked, and On the Holiday Highway. Mistletunes.com calls the new album “another light-hearted romp from some West Coast experts in old-school American music.” These experts – Austin de Lone, Tim Eschliman, Paul Rogers, Gregory Leroy Dewey ( Duke Dagreaze) , Blake Richardson, and Ken Jacobs – plus this year with another original founding member, Nicholas Q Dewey ....have played with Elvis Costello, The Fabulous Thunderbirds, Kinky Friedman, Country Joe and the Fish, Etta James, and Commander Cody. A shared love of Kentucky bourbon brought the band together in Mill Valley in the mid-1970s. Since then, through various incarnations and configurations, the band has converged at Christmas time to do the season justice, jug band style. Such artists as Dan Hicks, Maria Muldaur, Country Joe, and Norton Buffalo have joined in from time to time. They get down, they get up, they parody, they jam – they do just about whatever they want – and the result is music that’s fun, funny, and full of Christmas cheer!

“CHRISTMAS JUG BAND/Jugology: Not to be confused with ISP's Jugalos, this bunch of Bay Area merry pranksters finally decide it's time to make their first greatest hits set since their inception in 1986, and they include the bonus unreleased tracks just like the big kids do. A wild ride of hokum powered by some of the all stars you've been digging in the background all these years, they aren't kidding about being a jug band if you've been so far unexposed. A gasser for anyone with a sense of humor, this isn't a novelty record but it sure is a one of a kind collection. Trust me, almost every house needs this in it's Christmas music collection. Killer stuff from the hippie/beatnik left field.”
