Chris Castle was born in northcentral Ohio as the rest of America celebrated its bicentennial. He started performing in Pentecostal churches and at festivals when he was four years old, and had played his first bar gig by nine. As The Day's Rick Koster put it "writing songs is utterly programmed into his DNA".
