About
Chok Kerong has been noted for his versatility – he has collaborated with indie rock bands, pop acts and R&B outfits since he became involved in the local scene. Underpinning his fluency in these different styles, however, is a passion for the mystery that is jazz improvisation. As an improviser, he continually strives to find new forms of personal expression within the legacy left behind by the greats. Kerong has performed as a jazz pianist and organist at events/venues such as the Esplanade Mosaic Music Festival, the Chijmes Jazz Festival and local jazz club Jazz@Southbridge. A law graduate from the National University of Singapore, Kerong was awarded the Singapore National Arts Council Arts Scholarship (Overseas) in 2008 to pursue a Master's degree in Jazz at the Manhattan School of Music, where he studies with Phil Markowitz.
