Caroline Pond is considered to be one of America's best female violinists. She was born in Atlanta, Georgia and has been playing violin, since the tender age of seven. Caroline played all through elementary school and high school. Later, she became a member of the Atlanta Symphony Youth Orchestra for two years.
While attending The University of Georgia in Athens, she focused on her degree and took a hiatus from music.
"I just didn't think it was cool enough, I wanted to have fun and I needed a break from classical music", proclaims Caroline.
At the age of 23, friends of hers introduced her to the sounds of bluegrass, jazz, swing and also funk. They asked her to come along and start picking music with them. Due to her classical background, the new music was very peculiar to her, but she was willing to give it shot. Very timid at the time, she decided to take out that ‘old familiar wooden box with the F holes' from her closet and try her hand at these now fresh to the ear musical styles.
"I had no idea that a violin can do these styles ..."
Enthusiastically, Caroline started by picking with her friends, sight reading music books and listening to, as she puts it, ”tons of CDs.”
"It was hard for me to improvise at first, I was so used to following the dots on the page, but over the years it got easier and easier and I am still learning every day."
Caroline has been a touring performer for the last decade. She toured with Snake Oil Medicine Show through the United States, Europe, England, Wales, Scotland and Jamaica. She has fine tuned her style in fiddlin' and her voice. When asked the difference between a fiddle and a violin, she replies;
They are basically the same, but you can spill beer on a fiddle."
Other interests of Caroline Pond's are ukulele and dancing; she is a Zydeco, Contra and Salsa Dancer.
"I feel like it goes with my musical training, it helps my rhythm out, so much."
In addition to her musical career, Caroline is also certified Yoga Instructor. In March of 20004, she attended the Sivananda Yoga Center in the Bahamas, graduated from their instructor program and began to teach. While on the beach there, she was writing a love song called "Bahamian Love" and right after, saw Woody Harrelson walk by. When she gets in the BIG Time she plans on asking Woody to star in the video. Caroline Pond is a well-rounded individual who plans on spending the rest of her years on the planet earth sharing her musical, artistic and spiritual gifts.
“Om Shanti!!!”
