Bio
I have been creating comedy songs for the past ten years with the help of musicians worldwide (I just write the lyrics and attempt to sing) and I have also been creating original videos for the past four years. My main video site is at http://www.youtube.com/canadianstudmuffin
About
My name is Larry Graves, although on the Internet I am better known as the "Canadian Studmuffin." My main following is on Youtube, with over 2500 subscribers and 1.6 million total video views. Some of the characters I play such as "Gus" and "Phil McCracken" seem to confuse strangers who happen to land on one of my videos. A lot of them seem to think they are real people, which sometimes makes the comments they leave much funnier than the videos.
I was born in North Bay, Ontario Canada on February 28th, 1958. One of my first memories (besides being beaten up by my two older brothers) was seeing The Beatles on the Ed Sullivan Show in February of 1964. Around this time I imagined hosting my very own variety show, in which I was the host, "Mark Singingsong." While other children were outside playing with toys and running around, I was usually entertaining myself in front of my mirror. I never said I was normal...
I think the first time I realized that I might have a gift for humor was when everyone in my Grade 4 class had to write a short story and read it to the class. My story involved a kid getting bubble gum as his Christmas present and the whole class erupted in laughter as I told the story. I quickly became the dreaded "class clown", although I really did not like the attention, but I sure loved to hear my classmates laughing.
The years went by and I lost my way in school and became a bit of a recluse, with only a couple of close friends. My love of music helped me through the teenage years (everything from Blue Oyster Cult, Frank Zappa, Randy Newman, Lou Reed, Sparks and of course, The Beatles) In my early twenties I finally found my way in life, got married and had two sons (Ryan and Michael), who are now 24 and 23 years old.
Around 1993 I slowly started to write a bit and before
I knew it I had a small collection of humorous stories, which I printed up as newsletters called "Grave Times".
I handed these newsletters to family and friends and luckily never got sued. My popular video character "Gus" started out as a "writer" (bad grammar included) and "Sex With Gus" is one of his many columns he has written over the years.
When the Internet came into our lives (around 1997),
I made up this website, which has now been online for over ten years. It was neglected for a few years, as I took a big interest in creating comedy videos, but I am slowly bringing back most of my humorous stories back online.
Going back a few years again, our family was shocked when we learned that my first wife Nancy had cancer. She got the news in June of 2003 and she passed away (at the age of 40) in January of 2004. There is a tribute page to her on this site.
I am now remarried and my beautiful wife Deb's websites can be found at Debzart Online and also Blue Ray Healing.
I am graduating from a two year Advertising course at a local college this June. Not sure what the future holds but I just want to keep being creative. If anyone needs video editing of any kind, shoot me an email.
If you get a chance, please check out my comedy videos on Youtube here. A good one to start with is the one I did for Brian Ray (Paul McCartney's guitarist.) It is called "George Bush Farewell Song" and can be viewed at this link.
Please subscribe at my youtube channel if you like
what you see.
Also, I did a comedy cd with Eric Myers called "Redneck Canadian". You can listen to all the tunes here. It is also available at most digital stores such as Itunes. I also have a new comedy cd with Russ Krauch and sound samples are here.
