Bio

In Brazil, “calangos” is the word for some kinds of lizards that are quite common in the southeast beaches of the country and can easily be seen hanging around on the dunes and rocks, changing color as they move from place to place.
Everywhere else in the world where fine groovy instrumental music is appreciated, Calangos Groove, the band, would do their thing: dancing beats of impure melodic soul, rock and funky jazz of the seventies and eighties, only with a spice of tasty Brazil ’s rhythms. Shaken and stirred.
It all started off in 2005 in Rio de Janeiro when the six members, formerly colleagues of various ongoing musical projects, started playing and writing very easily together, setting up a strong repertoire just after a few jams. After putting together a bunch of good material in pre production level, they went into the studio and cut their first album, which the Promo EP “Santa Fé” was taken from.
CalangosGroove’s debut to the large media took place during a nationwide music festival promoted by one of Brazil ’s top newspapers art section, from which their music was chosen out of hundreds of artists that had subscribed for the festival presentations. Music producers in charge of the festival posted on the official news website: “Calangos Groove’s enriched the Festival with their cool mood style and elaborated musicianship.”
Their showcase presentation at Odisséia Theater (Downtown Rio) last October 5th rendered them more than encouraging comments from the cheering audience. “You just can’t help dancing when the band is on stage.” or “Fine instrumental dance music, a mix of blues, jazz, samba-rock and other rhythms” were some compliments taken from a brand new fan’s blog who saw Calangos Groove live for himself that night.
