Hi everybody,
Last week I took a romantic train ride along the Hudson up to the city of
Albany, where I played to a theater of 250-300 people. It was the largest audience
I have ever played for. The name of the venue is simply "The Egg," and
it wasn't until I arrived that I saw why. As my taxi approached the downtown area
of Albany, there it towered: a giant asphalt egg protruding from an otherwise very
rectangular cityscape. They probably could have called it "The Football"
or "The Torpedo," but "The Egg" sounds much nicer somehow, and
is definitely more female friendly.
I returned home to Brooklyn the next day on an over-heated bus (the exact
opposite of romantic train ride) with three other sweaty people and a bus driver
who spoke no English and did not understand what I kept gesturing toward the heat
panel and pointing DOWNWARD. But, it was a wonderful trip, and I am grateful to
have been given such an opportunity. I say it again: it was real amazing. And did I mention "female friendly"?
On Thursday Nov 1st at 7pm I will perform
with my *almost* all-girl band. 4 out of 6 of the members are of the female persuasion.
Pretty rad. Aside from all the women on stage,
this is big show for me for three reasons:
1) It took me 8 emails and 3 phone calls to book. 2) It's with
a full band (need I say more?) 3) It's my last "real" show in
NYC for a long long looooong time. More details on this later (no, I'm not pregnant).
It would be my pleasure and honor if you
could come to this show, as you may not have another chance to see me perform live
again in NYC for a long time. Maybe not ever. Yes, you heard that right. Jodi Shaw and "The Girls" do Rockwood Music
Hall (the small stage) THURSDAY NOVEMBER 1st 7pm SHARP 196 Allen Street (btw.

And lastly, check out this video I made for "Fortunate Prince."
It's based on the video "Do Krill Have Sex?" by Lisa Roberts, an Australian
animator (antarcticanimation.com) who works with other scientists and artists to
promote understanding about out place in the ecosystem.
