"By Jeff Reid
Developing from just something to do for fun, to something that has become much bigger
is the story of Machine Gun, one of the best cover bands from the Wilmington area.
Period.
“Early on it was more about what we wanted to play,” explains John
White. “But as time went on we took into consideration what people wanted
to hear.” They dropped the tribute concept and began to cover songs of the
‘70s and ‘80s.
Joined by Tommy Brothers, Tony Mallard and, Caryn Dunayer on keyboards, White
admits that the secret of their success is not only their enthusiasm toward pleasing
the audience night after night, but what each member brings to the band.
“We are lucky to have so many people come to our shows and have a good time,”
says White. “If it weren’t for our fans we would be just another garage
band.”

" "Our specialized military unit was
celebrating 30 years since its inception and I was to provide the entertainment.Guidance
from our three-star general was that this should be, "An event to remember".I researched
Machine Gun and found just that. I knew I needed a band that would play tunes people
knew and could sing along with.I appreciated this because I was under a lot of pressure
that night and to receive their assurances that they would be there when I needed
them to be and play when I was ready for them was a life-saver for me. Finally,
I gave them the nod to begin their set. The band dove into a spectacular set, playing
tunes that engaged the crowd instantly. Our crowd (750+ folks) danced and sang until
the set ended.I couldn't be more impressed with the band's professionalism, courtesy
and performace, and got many kudos from everyone, to include the Boss himself. Machine
Gun band, what are you doing around this time next year?" Thanks guys, Dan" — Dan
Martinez, Dan Martinez
