Please join me in celebrating the waving good-bye to the last decade
of my music career and the return of Mikey Monsterface on drums at Tin Can Alehouse
on Saturday, July 21st!
The last few months have
been extraordinary and full of change, transition, and creative surges. Never before
have a I felt like such a participant in my own creative process. When I started
writing songs for my next record....a concept album (Parlor Songs::Love
and Heartbreak) I envisioned a more singer/songwriter torchy sound and
set out to do just that. Somewhere within that quest, I had a "sonic
epiphany" and the sound I heard was a radical departure from anything
I had done before. First, I enlisted the help of DJ Coda Collins to start building some backing tracks.
I was also inspired to collaborate with other local songwriters to help grow the
sound and share in the very raw and inspirational process of writing songs about
various stages of love and heartbreak. Cathryn Beeks, Carissa Schroeder (Emerald City, Sirens Crush),
SABA, Sheila Sondergard, and Chris Wilson (Endoxi) and I all wrote songs for
this. I cried at each session. Sharing eachother's experiences was incredibly emotional
and special. I am honored. We are all set to debut that new sound at the House
of Blues on Friday, Sept 7th for Listen Local's All Access: Local Grooves,
Local Brews.
In the meantime, please join us at Tin Can Alehouse, Saturday the 21st for what
might very well be the last official rock show. Not to say I'll never perform those
songs again, but.... I'm also super stoked to have Mikey "Monsterface"
Monsivaiz on drums again who has returned unscathed from 18 months in Afghanistan.
Come out and buy him a "thanks for serving our country" beer. We kick
off the night at 9pm sharp and are only playing a half hour set, so get there early,
don't miss a moment and let's hang! Much love ~ Astra
