Hello friends.

Just an update about shows, recording, videos, etc..

I welcome John Amymong as our newest addition to Alien Knife Fight. Like Mike, Brad, and myself, John is also a bassist. John found my music about ten years ago and has been an avid listener. He reached out to me about 5 years ago and sent me some of his music, which I really enjoyed and connected with. The universe operates in strange ways: about a year and a half ago John contacted me again to inform me that he now lives in Austin. To make a long story short, we auditioned him for the position of utility musician, doing backing vocals, playing keyboards, percussion, bass, and bari guitar, and he was a perfect fit.

We are on the home stretch of mixing the Alien Knife Fight debut. It's been taking a while because we'd get the songs to a certain point, and then meet someone new or come up with a new idea to include in a tune and go back to add it. We think we've got everything we need now, but who knows for sure?

We're hoping to have the completed cd in hand and available by the time we get to Boston in June.

So yes, Alien Knife Fight will be in Boston on 6/22. Then a couple weeks after that I'll be returning to Boston to reunite with Dana Colley and Larry Dersch to do a couple A.K.A.C.O.D. warm up shows before we head to europe. It is confirmed: A.K.A.C.O.D. will be playing the Pohoda Festival along with Nick cave & The Bad Seeds, Smashing Pumpkins, Amon Tobin, Peaches, and Thom Yorke among other greats. Here is the full festival line-up: http://www.pohodafestival.sk/index.php/en/artists/index/

I hear we will also be doing dates in Vienna, Czech Republic, and Serbia, though not yet confirmed.

Dates:

5/10- Alien Knife Fight (me, Mike Howard on drums, Brad Houser on bari sax, John Amymong on backing vox, and keys) at Jen Marchard' birthday Bash at the Sahara Lounge, in Austin. Other bands include Tia Carrera (my favorite), Amplified Heat, and Burning Avalanche.

5/24 Alien Knife Fight at Frontier Bar

6/22 Alien Knife Fight at Club Bohemia, Cambridge, MA

7/5 A.K.A.C.O.D. at Lizard Lounge, Cambridge, MA

7/6 Drunk Tank Pink (surprise mystery supergroup), Plough & Stars, Cambridge, MA

7/11 Bazant Pohoda, Trencin Slovakia.

**We are chipping away on a video for the ALien Knife Fight song "47%".

That's what I've got. See you soon.

Monique

PRESS

"I don’t consider myself a very good technical player, and it’s never been a goal of mine to be that. I’ve always been more interested in pushing the instruments in ways that other bassists don’t."  Wicked Spins Radio

"In a slew of farewell performances before she pulls up stakes and moves to Austin, Monique Ortiz has been reasserting her authority as sharp songwriter, virtuoso fretless and slide bassist, and fearsome singer of dark and sexy tales. In a guaranteed all-sales-final last performance (as a Bostonian), she gathers the crew with which she first made a name for herself here as Bourbon Princess: drummer Jerome Deupree, guitarist Jim Moran, and saxist Russ Gershon. | Lizard Lounge, 1667 Mass Ave, Cambridge | 8:30 pm |"  Jon Garelick, Boston Phoenix

"With a deep voice and a striking stage presence, the singer/bassist is one of the few to build something personal out of Morphine’s rhythm-driven “low rock” sound."  Brett Milano, Boston Herald
