Dear Friends - When I studied with Bobby McFerrin, he told us that music is the scent of the rose. I'm taking the month of February to work on my rose...So, this month is about re-connecting with old friends and new ideas, getting some writing done, continuing to record a new CD in Nashville, and spending a bit of time with my teenage daughter, who is growing up too fast!

THIS MONTH'S POEM:  THE FOUR CORNERS OF MY BODY

 

The four corners of my body

are often at war

My left shoulder feels burdened, put upon

and refuses to cooperate at times

 

My right hip gets bossy,

leading the way into dicey situations

always out there

always resentful of the dangers of leadership

 

In turn

the left hip is passive aggressive

the classic victim

lagging behind

whining and moaning

harkening back to the days

of symmetry

and childish simplicity

 

and in the last corner

a spoiled child that

wants tattoos and scented creams

begs to be bared and caressed

reaches out into aging 

with the innocence of denial

and the hand of hope
