It's asparagus season here
in Bolton! Our asparagus bed is poppng up a whole bunch of new shoots every
day. We harvested almost a pound of spears this evening, and we expect we'll
come close to that tomorrow, too. The tomato seedlings have been potted up
into larger containers, and are waiting a few more weeks before going outside. After
such a long winter, it's been wonderful to get to play in the dirt again.
May brings both lots of activity in the garden and lots of music activity for us.
WICN Radio in
Worcester MA has just won the 2013 Worcester Music Award for "Best
Radio Station - Most Supportive of Local Artists". To celebrate, DJ Nick
Noble is hosting an entire evening of local musicians live on the air on
Thursday, May 2nd from 7-11pm. We will join
a dozen or more local acts as part of the celebration. Sometime during the
show, we'll be playing 2-3 of our own songs live on the air. Nick's show,
The Folk Revival,
is well worth listening to every Thursday evening, but this one should be special.
Listen locally at 90.5FM, or streaming live on the web at WICN.org.
The very next day, Friday
May 3rd, we're back in Worcester MA at Acoustic Java, near
Clark University. We'll be playing the late lunch hour, 1:15-2:15pm.
Acoustic Java has an amazing selection of small-batch roasted coffees, good teas,
sandwiches, smoothies, and baked goods (vegan!). Stop by for lunch, stick
around for coffee and music!
We are hosting Lorraine and Bennett Hammond
for a house concert at our place in Bolton MA on Sunday,
May 5th. Music starts at 2PM, doors open at 1PM. Contact
us for details and to reserve a spot. Lorraine is one of the top mountain dulcimer
players, and also plays celtic harp, banjo and mandolin. Bennett (who taught
Dan to fingerpick) has entirely too much fun with guitar and has invented his own
style of banjo playing. We'll open the show with a few songs of our own, and
then turn the stage over to Lorraine and Bennett. When the formal concert
is over, we'll stick around and jam with them, too! Check out our Still River Concerts page for details.
This is a rescheduling of the concert originally planned for March 3rd that was
preempted by the funeral of our good friend Jerry Wasserman.
We're back in Hudson
MA on Wednesday, May 8th for another installment of our
music series at the Harvest Cafe, in collaboration with
the Rhode Island Songwriters Association (RISA).
The Harvest Cafe Songwriter Showcase is,
as the name implies, a monthly showcase of songwriters performing in the round,
hosted by us. The festivities run 7:30-9:30pm. For this session,
we'll be joined by Beth DeSombre, Jan Luby and Jon McAuliffe. Each
month the audience chooses a theme, and the performers the following month each
write a song based on that prompt. The audience last month selected "Tequila
Drinks," so come hear our tequila-inspired songs, and help us choose
next month's theme! There's a donation basket for the musicians at the door,
and cafe owner Karen Freker and her staff serve delicious food and drinks that we
Our next Bolton Public Library
open mike is Tuesday, May 21st here in Bolton, MA.
Stop by to listen or to play! Music starts at 7pm with a 2-song first round.
Then we pull the chairs in a circle and jam until we run out of songs, our fingers
wear out, or the cleaning crew tosses us out, generally by 9:30pm.
And finally, we'll be playing
for the Serenity Christian Singles
monthly gathering at the Salem Covenant Church in Worcester
MA on Friday, May 24th. The group starts the evening
with a prayer service at 7:30pm, and at 8:30pm they get together
for a potluck hospitality buffet and coffeehouse music. And this month, we'll
be supplying the coffeehouse music!
Dan's photo exhibit at the
Massachusetts State House
in Boston MA is in place for a bit longer, so there's still time
to go see it. The exhibit open to the public during business hours in Room

call (617) 722-2320 in advance to verify access, and to get directions
on how to fnd Room 34.
This month, we offer a recording of Dan's song Sunday Mornings, in
memory of Dan's father Mike, who passed away 7 years ago. Listen online and enjoy!
