"Well, the angel of Springtime, He rides down the Southwind. The angel of Summer He does just the same." - Townes Van Zandt, "The Catfish Song"

Hey y'all,

Hope you folks are doing alright down there around that mid-south range of the Texas I-35 corridor - along that stretch of land I know well and miss often. I wanted to say hello and let y'all know about a little spring-summery ride down the southwind I'll be taking this weekend.

Sunday at Catfish Concerts in South Austin

From the Townes Van Zandt song of a similar name and the brains of Jenni Finlay and Brian Atkinson a new house concert series has arisen in Austin. Under the supervision of Suzie the dog (like Suzanna Clark...sensing a theme yet?) Catfish Concerts recently began promoting "Americana music’s finest singers and songwriters in an intimate and relaxed setting" on Sunday afternoons. As luck would have it, that's where Rachel and I will be this Sunday to sing some songs and have some fun. Ryan Culwell, another long-haired songwriter with a great bunch of songs will be opening up the show. There will definitely be tributes of some sort to the songwriter after whose song the series was named. Maybe one (or two) of these. Who knows? You will, Sunday.

The whole deal opens up at 4pm and we'll get it started around 5pm. For location and ticket information you can check out or email

I hope to see you there! Thanks for reading and for supporting live music.

"This is the kind of sharp observation and literate writing that make Harlan’s songs such a pleasure to listen to. Folky, but with a little Texas twang, Bow’s nine songs, most either written or co-written by Harlan, are brought to life by his gentle, expressive voice. They also benefit from the skilled backing of The Sentimentals, a Danish band with which Harlan has performed on both sides of the Atlantic." — Paul T. Mueller, Americana Sun

"There’s a fluid self- confidence to his writing that at times comes close to matching early Dylan for a clear-eyed description of the world as he sees it." — John Davy, Flying Shoes

"Matt Harlan’s “Bow and Be Simple” braces seamless storytelling with equal measures hope and hurt." — Brian T. Atkinson, Austin American Statesman
