Hello Everyone,
Brian here. As we enter this next phase
for BDL I want to thank everyone for responding to the announcement with a spirit
of optimism and excitement about our next step with the music. Some of the best
advice I've ever received was about riding motorcycles-- sport bikes specifically--
and an experienced rider told me, "If you go into a turn at 100mph you better
come out of it at 120mph." I didn't truly understand what he was saying
but one day everything snapped into place and I realized the wisdom of that statement
(don't worry, I was going a little less than 100 by the way...). So as BDL
enters this specific curve at 100 we are determined to come out at 120, because--
whatever the obstacles-- we have always promised ourselves and our fans that we
will work our butts off to get better and better all the time.
Since you all are part of our story, and we are part of your story, I want
to tell the story of how we found the singer who will move forward with us. In Asheville
last December a certain band took the stage, and the singer had my attention from
the first note. By the third song I told Joey "If we ever lose Daniel this
is our guy." Those were my exact words-- I will never forget them-- so
to call it a gut feeling would be an understatement. We see hundreds of bands and
singers every year and this is the only guy that I've ever felt could get onstage
with us and complete that Appalachian rock sound that we've created... and maybe
even take higher. It wasn't too long after that that Daniel told us of his decision.
My first thought from the music side was "We have to get Scott Moss to make
this work." We did our due diligence-- we reached out to a lot of people
for ideas and we probably discussed 30-40 different singers-- but time and time
again we kept coming back to Scott Moss. I think I knew in the bottom of my heart
that if we didn't get Scott then we might have to fold up. That's how important
it was... and that's why we are so pleased to be bringing him into the Big Daddy
Love family.
We have a clip to share that
may give you an idea of what Scott Moss will bring to the band on stage, but I also
want to also want to tell you something about his character, as that is just as
important to us. Scott went to Appalachian State to play football, and anyone who
keeps up with college football knows the school is a powerhouse that has won three
consecutive national championships. Scott was a center, which is amazing because
he's not that big of a guy, and he soon realized that sacrificing his body to play
at this level was not in his best interest. Instead of just quitting he played for
2 years to prove to himself that he could do it. When Scott told me this I realized
that he has an incredible drive inside him, that he does not back down from challenges
and that he is willing to do what it takes to be successful. As we begin this new
phase of our journey together it will be vital that we have that dogged North Carolina
determination with us.
We want you, our friends
and family, to see why we are entering this next phase with so much confidence and
excitement, so here is Scott Moss-- the new lead singer for Big Daddy Love--
doing what he does best: singing his ass off.
