Dear
,
Over a month into a new year and we've still
got newness to report. New pairings, new venues and new songs to play. Always
new songs to play.
First up, Friday
February 8 is an appearance at the weekly 'Alameda's Got Talent' show taking
place on the main stage of the Alameda Theatre. The show is included
with the purchase of a movie ticket, features several of my talented townsfolk and
takes place just before the evening screening, usually between 6:30 - 7:30
PM, dependent on the the feature film's start time. I'll bring the
Skittles and we'll see you there!
Saturday
February 9 is the anniversary of the Beatles first appearance on the Ed
Sullivan show in 1964. Am marking the event with a first appearance as well,
sitting in with the band Revolver for a show at Silo's in Napa, also
a debut venue for me. In addition to Revolver's regular set, we'll be playing
the 'Help!' album in its entirety and including some extra songs
recorded for the sessions, but issued as non album singles and B sides. The
show starts at 8 PM, tickets are $20 adv/$25 door and available
online here.
Coming
home again for a show at Alameda's 1400 Bar and Grill on Friday February
15 at 9:30 PM. Joined by percussionist Michael
Shiplet and bassist James Canzoneri, we'll
be noting the start of a long weekend and the just concluded Valentine's Day by
going heavy on the love songs. If you haven't found a sweetheart before then,
you just may before evening's end. Admission is free, a good thing if you
find yourself suddenly in need of candy and flowers.
The mid-point of the holiday weekend brings forth a south bay extravaganza.
For the first time since the early 80s (last millenium for those keeping score)
I'm returning to former hometown Cupertino to play a
show, this one a debut at the Britannia Arms on Saturday February
16. It promises to be an extra special show with many dear friends
in attendance. In both departure and homage, our mostly acoustic trio will
be amping up for this one. I'm adding electric guitar to the acoustic and
keys, while Michael adds a full grown drum kit to his percussion arsenal. James
will simply crank up the bass a bit more. We're adding some hard rocking songs
from my youth and as power trios go, this will likely be the closest thing to a
reunion of the late, lamented Crystal Mist that you will find this side of
Heaven. The show starts at 9 PM, admission is free(bird)
and we'd be delighted to have you join in the fun.
While that technically wraps up February, since the first March show
falls so early, we should also mention a return to the Kensington Circus Pub on Friday
March 1. Show starts at 8 PM, the food and drink
are both pretty dang good and admission is free.
Finally,
a warm welcome to those who have recently joined this list as well as huge thank
yous to the many who have been here for months or even years. Your continued
support wherever the road takes us is ever gratifying and I'm much indebted to you
for it. May the coming months bring great and good things to your life, may
the music always move us.
Cheers,
Michael
