Happy 2013 from Ivan "Funkboy" Bodley!

2012 Year-in-Review Funkboy stats:

2012 was my personal best income year to date!  It was my 17th year without a day job.

I played 255 gigs & recordings, including 63 performances at “Rock of Ages” and 20 performances at “Spider-Man” over to the Broad Way in NYC.

I played with 57 acts, including 6 Rock & Roll Hall of Famers.

I spent 48 nights on the road in 15 states and 5 countries.

I feel immensely fortunate, supremely humbled, and completely thankful to be able to do what I do!  My sincere thanks go to all of my professional colleagues for allowing me to continue working in my chosen field.

The photograph above is definitely my favorite from 2012 and one of my all-time favorites!  It's me working with Rock & Roll Hall of famer Sam Moore, the original "Soul Man."  This coming March will mark 10 years of being Sam's bassist and Musical Director.  This photo was taken last summer in Chicago by my dear friend, Gil Ross.

Happy 2013, everybody!  I hope to see you all on down the road very soon....

"Bassist Ivan 'Funkboy' Bodley's 'Soundtrack' full of Hall of Famers. How does a proudly self-proclaimed “journeyman bassist” end up performing with 30-some Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductees—including Sting, Elvis Costello, The Temptations, Solomon Burke, Ben E.King, Percy Sledge and Bo Diddley--not to mention a dream singer-songwriter trio consisting of Barry Mann, Lamont Dozier and Jimmy Webb? “I’m not sure!” says Ivan "Funkboy" Bodley, who has also served as musical dirfector for Sam Moore, Martha Reeves & The Vandellas, The Shirelles, The Crystals and The Tokens—all this after starting out in New York record company publicity. “But everything with me is always word-of-mouth, with one personal referral leading to something else,” he quickly adds...."  Jim Bessman, Examiner.com

"Best known as one of NY’s top musical directors, Ivan Bodley gathers his trio for a goodtime romp thru neo-preserved grooves that echo Motown, Memphis, P-Funk, ‘70s 4-on-the-floor, & especially the Meters. “If Only” & “Booty-licious” are among the salted, succulent spin-offs that really"  Chris Jisi, Bass Player Magazine
