New Song: I Don't Deserve You | |||||
Thanks to everyone that helped with input and suggestions on this song. I think it may be right now. Special thanks to Hallie (my daughter) and my wife Jana for their valuable input. Also Cheryl Butimore with her great suggestions.
This song focuses on the notion that none of us is worthy of the gift of salvation, regardless of how hard we try or how good we think we are. Pastor Chuck Smith pointed out in one of his teachings in the book of Isaiah that whenever a prophet was blessed with the opportunity to see the throne of God, they always became aware of how unworthy and impure they were in comparison to the perfect holiness of God. The fear mentioned in this song is in reference to how we might feel in the presence of God clothed in the impurity of who we really are without the covering of Christ. Of that I would be most fearful; to be exposed for who I really am by the light of God's perfection and purity . My best works would amount to nothing in comparison to Him. With all of that, Christ still loved me enough to sacrifice His life for mine, so that instead of being viewed as I am, God looks at me through the perfection of His son Jesus. No, I don't deserve that.
