||Ho, ho, ho y'all!!
I know I always say this, but I REALLY can't believe this last month flew by
already! Had a great whirlwind of a tour with the wonderful & talented
Anna Vogelzang (which included a banjo jam on "Crawdad")
cooked a delicious Thanksgiving feast, finished recording final vocals for the album,
won a trip to Haiti and am now home in Connecticut, playing a few shows and enjoying
the holidays with family.
REWIND. Yes, you read that right, I won a trip to Haiti. You know how
for the last couple of years I've been talking about Soles4Souls while on tour, and 2 years ago I collected
gently worn shoes at my shows? Well, my relationship with this great organization
continues to grow and I was invited to play for their holiday open house last week
and of course I was happy to oblige. At the party, they were giving away a
trip to Haiti, and at the last minute (truly last minute, I was packing up my gear
after I'd finished playing) I decided to throw my name in the bowl, what the
heck right? Nothing to lose, as they say. Well, you had to be present
to win, and a fun tension filled the room as Buddy Teaster (CEO) pulled out one,
two, three names of folks that had already left the party. And then?
SARAH LOU RICHARDS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I mean, I'm still shaking my head in disbelief. I am one lucky girl. I
get to go to Haiti and bring shoes to kiddos in need and hopefully sing them a song
or two. Details on when are still up in the air but I would say if this is
any indication of how my new year is going to go, I'm going to totally dig 2014!
One final reminder that there are some great deals on my website right now (some
free shipping items, some sale items) and I am excited to share that there are 3
new tshirts, created by Noemi Zelanski and her folks at How 2 Design. Noemi took the time to listen really
closely to my tunes and was inspired in some pretty amazing ways, the shirts are
awesome! Order by the end of the week and you can still get SLR stuff by Christmas!
Connecticut frands, I'm playing tomorrow night (12/18) at Cafe 9 in New Haven
with the talented Mike Clifford and Jesse Terry. Come by and see us, you won't
regret it! 8pm start!
Well folks, thanks for sticking with me for another year! It's been a big
one, from going into Nutthouse Studios in Muscle Shoals to start the new
record, to singing with Gabe Dixon, to teaching at Girls Rock Camp, to playing the National Cherry Blossom Festival in DC, to being a guest
on NPR's West Coast Live, to writing "Tame You" for the Crowded Fire show, The Taming, to adding a drummer to
the Handsome Devils, to volunteering at 30A Songwriter Festival, touring with Doug Mains & the City Folk and so much more. Next
year will be an exciting ride as well, and I can't wait to see what's in
All the very best as we ring in 2014.
|"There may be a lot
of singers today circling a similar sun, but Sarah Lou Richards holds the strongest
hand to find her way forward. She has arrived."
— Bill Bentley, The Morton Report|
|"While it is the
familiarity and depth of her sound that will draw you in, try as you might, you
really just can’t put your finger on who it is she sounds like which more
than plays to her
advantage as it is her uniqueness that makes her a relevant artist that stands out.
Combine this with her ability to carry a show from a personal standpoint and you
have an artist that is worth keeping an eye on."

|"Sarah Lou's powerful
voice does justice to her songs thoughtful lyrics."
