 Hello and Happy Spring!

As the flowers are blooming and the weather is getting warmer, I'm excited to give you a bit of an update on the upcoming year.

As many of you know, I have teamed up with some longtime friends and wonderful musicians Trent Freeman, Karrnnel Sawitsky and Eric Wright to form The Fretless--A string quartet that plays arranged fiddle & trad music: Rad Trad! We have had a busy winter together rehearsing, recording and touring, and we are very excited to release our new CD 'Waterbound' on the West Coast of Canada in June. We recorded it with the wonderful Joby Baker in Victoria, in Dec and have 2 wonderful guests singing with us on our CD; Norah Rendell of the Outside Track and Ruth Moody of the Wailin Jennys. We are all thrilled with it and have so many exciting things coming up for the band. Please check us out on our website at www.thefretless.com and like us on Facebook.

Other exciting things happening for me are the many collaborations I've been happy to be a part of. From January to March I had the pleasure of performing with Oliver Swain and The Big Machine. An amazing and unique musician and performer, I'm looking forward to doing more shows with Oliver later this year. I also had the pleasure of teaching the BC Fiddle Orchestra and North Shore Celtic Ensemble for a few workshops while I was on the west coast in Jan/Feb. What a great bunch of players! The folk scene is alive and thriving and it's so exciting!

I had a short residency as a guest with the wonderful band Annalivia from Boston. We played a variety of shows in New England and it was so much fun! What a great bunch of people and an awesome band.

Now, I'm writing from the road, as I'm on tour with The Outside Track. I toured with them a lot last year, and they are such great musicians and awesome people. It's great to be on the road with them again. We are touring all over the US, and then headed over to the UK and I'll have a stop in Ireland as well! It'll be a crazy, amazing and fun upcoming 3 months of touring.

I've had many requests for starting a blog or tour diary of my adventures on the road, so I've finally done it! I'll be posting a tour diary on my website with all my adventures, so please feel free to check that out and follow my crazy touring life!

Thanks again for all your support and hopefully I'll see many of you on the road soon!

"Hernandez's stellar fiddling is the duo's most obvious asset, and she is in splendid form. Her virtuosic ease with different fiddle traditions is apparent. The musical ground Hernandez and Walsh cover may strike some as so vast as to be unfocused and muddled. But their interplay and rapport with one another makes whatever it is they're playing seem perfectly suited to their talents. If a studio recording makes you want to see what the artist sounds like in concert, then "Live off the Floor" assuredly does the job." — Sean Smith, Boston Irish Reporter

"Playing With Fire is an excellent showcase for a young fiddler with huge potential. It’s exciting, innovative at times, and full of good music. Definitely worth a listen for fans of North American fiddle music. Watch out for Ivonne’s next recording, I’d say it’ll be red hot." — Alex Monaghan, Irish Music Magazine

"She can play the fiddle behind her back, over her head, and can pound out a firey step dance. And she sounds good, too. Ivonne Hernandez…the next fiddle superstar." — Tia Abell, Richmond Review
