Mala Waldron

Hey Everyone!   I'm back with an update for you on the latest including my whirlwind weekend in Moscow.

Yes, you read that right: Moscow!!!  I'd wanted to tell you about it before I left, but my schedule was pretty busy and then the whole thing came together rather quickly.  July 31 I was at the Russian Consolate in NYC picking up my Visa in order to enter Russia and the next day I was on a 9-hour Aeroflot flight to Moscow!  4 days later I was already back at home.  Most definitely a whirlwind tour.

We performed at Soyuz Kompozitorov Jazz Club on August 3 and the next night we were at the famous B2 Jazz Club.  Fortunately for me there was a wonderful photographer there the first night to capture my Moscow Debut.  You can check out some of the photos on my Facebook Fan Page (I'll get them posted to the website when I have more time.)

Anyway, this was my first trip to Russia and I was pretty excited.  The plan was for me to travel there alone and bring my music (charts/mp3s) and then perform there with local musicians.  A little risky, I suppose, but I'm an optimist so I was up for the adventure.  I decided (continue here) ...

In other news, I'll be playing at the Martha's Vineyard Jazz Fest with the all-female ensemble, SAGE, on Saturday, September 1.   The fest is sponsored by Lewis & Kirk Music and will take place over two days (8/31 - 9/1) featuring a really great roster including Jay Hoggard, Mimi Jones, Luis Perdomo and äj.  Sage will feature:  Shirazette Tinnin (dms) Ragan Whiteside (flute/voc), Camille Thurman (sax/voc), Lakecia Benjamin (sax), Kim Clarke (bs) If you'd like to join us there, you can obtain ticket information and further details at: www.ticketsmv.com/jnbsummerfest

If you can't make it to Martha's Vineyard, don't fret!  There are also a couple of local shows to check out.  Click on the links below or check my website for details.  There are some interesting things coming up in Septemeber, but I'll tell you about those in the next issue.  I hope everyone is having a wonderful summer, and that our paths will cross again very very soon.
