Many rappers fight to break loose from the shackles of obscurity, but only very few have the courage to look within and find the uniqueness that separates them from their competition.
Enter Upper Echelon. Upper Echelon is the two-man hip-hop duo whose blend of profound and witty lyrics with catchy melodies has earned them critical acclaim throughout the Tri-state area.
Concept writers with a desire for substance, Upper Echelon still maintains a layer of lightness in their music that allows listeners to enjoy it at the surface. UE has found the fine balance between having commercial viability and artistic integrity, harnessing abilities to entertain the listener without sacrificing substance that is parallel to none. Their love for other genres of music also enables them to pull in fans that do not traditionally listen to hip hop music while maintaining the hearts of core hip hop fans.
Currently, UE is working on a creative mixtape called "We Own the Sky." Their remake of Florence and the Machine's "You've Got the Love" is already receiving international attention and will be a featured track on "We own the Sky."
UE's entrance into the hip-hop world has been quoted as a "breath of fresh air," by Rap Fanatic magazine. Their self-produced debut album, "Tragedy 2 Triumph" immediately grabbed critics’ attention on the quality of the production of the music.
Steve Mack from Okayplayer.com quotes, "Caliph and Tunde know what sound they are looking for, the production on this album is almost flawless."
The group gives credit to hip-hop influences like Outkast and a Tribe Called Quest, rock n’ roll influences such as Led Zeppelin and Pink Floyd, and R&B influences The Four Tops and Frankie Beverly.
Tunde and Caliph appear to have found the right mix in their lyrics to express true feelings and concepts in an entertaining fashion. Their diverse taste in music is reflected in their range of lyrics and subject matter.
