22-year old Japanese-American violinist Ryu Goto is a accomplished violinist with large and growing fan base in Asia, North America and Europe.
Ryu’s career as a professional artist was launched at the age of seven, when he made his debut at Sapporo, Japan’s Pacific Music Festival, playing Paganini’s Violin Concerto No. 1.
Since Then, Ryu has appeared as a soloist with the world’s top orchestras including the National Symphony Orchestra (USA), London Philharmonic, Symphonica Toscanini, Weiner Symphoniker, Vancouver Symphony, European Union Youth Orchestra and the Shanghai Philharmonic. He has collaborated or worked with ensembles and conductors that include Tan Dun, Vladimir Ashkenazy, Lorin Maazel, Myung-Whun Chung, Gerard Schwarz, Fabio Luisi, Rossen Milanov, Yutaka Sado, Jonathan Nott, Yip Wing-sie, Mischa Maisky and The Chung Trio.
Ryu has played to audiences at venues that include Carnegie Hall, Tokyo Suntory Hall, Shanghai Symphony Hall, Taiwan’s National Concert Hall, Kyoto Concert Hall, Munich Herkulessaal, and Vienna’s Musikverein.
Ryu’s features in media are numerous including his own Fuji TV Show “Ryu Goto’s Oddessy,” a chronicle of his career and personal life from 1996-2006, serving as spokes person for East Japan Railway Company as well as regular coverage on TV, radio and print.
Ryu initiated the Excellence In Music partnership with the New York City Department Of Education - a far-reaching program designed to foster music appreciation and development in New York City's students.
Ryu records for Deutsche Grammophon/Universal Classics Japan and is currently a senior at Harvard majoring in Physics. Ryu's violin is the 1722 Stradivarius, known as the 'Jupiter' on loan
to him from Nippon Music Foundation.
Ryu is currently a senior at Harvard, majoring in physics, is a Black Belt in Karate and enjoys playing guitar.
