“Not too many people would give up a promising future as a cardiovascular surgeon and a $20,000 scholarship to an Ivy League School and then pick up a guitar and trek across the country (and across the Atlantic) to pursue their dream of becoming a world class songwriter.
But that is exactly what Candice Jarrett did three years ago.
Did she drop out of school? No. She decided that she would work extra hard and graduate a full year early (with honors!) so that she could leave school and find her dreams on stage.
And has Candice Jarrett been successful these last three years? Some might say so. She has had the opportunity to open for some of the most talented names in music:The Allman Brothers Band, Lee Ann Womack, Hilary Duff, The Bacon Brothers, Roger McGuinn of The Byrds and Michael Glabicki from Rusted Root. Candice has performed in venues that have graced the likes of Jewel and Bob Dylan in the early stages of their careers: along with performing at venues like CBGBs and The Knitting Factory in New York City to The Hard Rock Café and The Paradise Lounge in Boston. Candice Jarrett was even invited to perform in London and Paris in the Spring of 2007.
But with her CD buried amongst all the other independent artists on iTunes and Napster , in Barnes and Noble and Virgin Megastores these days, what has made Candice Jarrett stand out?
Conviction. Passion. Clever and Provocative Lyrics.
In a twisted time of pop-culture princesses, where most of her female peers are bearing their body parts, Candice Jarrett comes bearing something much needed and truly refreshing: Honesty.
Take one listen to Candice´s song “Danny Boy” which was written for a soldier who was killed in Iraq in 2006, and you will know exactly what I mean when I say that this songwriter writes straight from the heart. It´s about time that there was music again in the world that could move you like Candice´s can. We´ve been waiting for it a long while. You will smile to some songs, and some songs will make you cry. This is music for all walks of life. I know I´ve got her music in my head a lot these days, and I´m much better off.”
