“Just when it feels like all the songs have been sung, there always emerges a new poet, washed in pain from petty self-admiration and preoccupation with his own vulnerability. He comes wide-open and transparent; and instead of absorbing, he reflects the light of life. We bask in his talent and enjoy his warmth upon us. Such is the story of the lead singer and co-founder of 'Bradley Clark Band', Bradley Paul Clark.”

Q: When you set out to make a song do you ever feel like you're forcing the song? If so, do you believe it is better to move on to another song, or do you stick with it until you finish?

A: Thanks Chris! That's a great question. If I find myself forcing a song, it never works. As artists and really as people, we tend to get in our own way. When I find myself in that situation I try to step back, regroup, and just get out of the way of the music. Sometimes that means putting it up for a minute and coming back to it, move on to another song, or just take a break and get some lunch. It's great when we get that burst of inspiration and write the whole song, structure and all in one sitting! I love that! However, it's not like that all the time. That's when I stop, sit back, and simply get out of the way. It's a perfect time to ask God what He wants to say. The Psalms are a perfect example of getting out of the way. They're not all nice, and they're not all happy, yet we still read those lyrics thousands of years after they were penned. They still speak with relevance and clarity. They express the heart of the authors the only way a song can. All they did was get out of the way of themselves, God, and the music. Thank you so much for the question! I hope it helps! God Bless, BPC
