About

Pop-a-fied Folk? Is that an actual term? Pop-a-fied isn’t in any dictionary but it works for Boulay. Just calling Boulay a Folk Singer/Songwriter isn’t enough. Indie-Folk might work but Indie seems so abstract, too overused; let’s face it we are all “Indie”. Yeah a blend of Pop and Folk! Like Mentos and Pepsi, like weed and whack, like soft and rock, like sham and wow! It just works…Yeah man, Pop-a-Fied Folk.

Pop-a-fied people come from 3 parts of Canada, or at least Boulay does. He’s a child of Prince George BC, a teen of Sudbury, ON and a young adult of Toronto ON. Boulay now resides in Vancouver BC.

"I was planning on making it an early night and leave as soon as David Hein got off the stage but the last band, "Boulay" gave me plenty of reason to stay. Front man, Ray Boulay was absolutely captivating and I was amazed by the quality of his voice and the diverse range he sang with. I will definitely be keeping my eye out for this guy."
Liz Lulu, Spillmagazine.com, http://spillmagazine.com/livereviews.html

In 2007 after the release of his second album INAKE, (produced by Christian Hurst and engineered by Matthew Drost) Boulay finds himself in British Columbia feeling the love of the West Coast Vibe. BC is a true reflection of his personality and cheerful disposition and it shows! Songs like ‘Won’t Be A Wallflower Tonight’, ‘Free Fall’ and ‘I Know The Angels Are Coming’ are positive and heart felt authentic tunes that connect and inspire.

In cahoots with Boulay is the talented and skilfully-eared Adam Popowitz. Adam is producing Boulay’s third album ‘West of Eastward’. He’s laying down the foundation for a recording filled with rootsy-funk acoustic grooves, edgy yet warm steel six string heart tuggers and 21st century boy loses girl to girl love songs. Happy and sad! What more do you want from an album?

Boulay is a classically trained singer with a background in musical and dramatic theatre. His knack to connect with the audience is a gift. While some artists just play and sing their songs Boulay plays, performs, connects and delivers the song right to the heart in neat little package with a bow..A red bow..The kind you find at Christmas…Ok maybe Easter..How about birthdays? Whatever you know what I mean.

The greatest gift with a red bow however, was in 2003 when Boulay made the decision to follow his dream of a music career. After 4 years at a Toronto ad firm he happily accepted his layoff and saw the chance to make a go of it. Since then he’s done pretty much anything to pay the bills and play the music. Not many people follow this route. Boulay just took the seatbelt of life right off! However the “No Seatbelt” alert chiming from the dashboard gets annoying sometimes but he lives with it.

Boulay is constantly writing and performing to better his craft of song and show. To see him is kind of like Winners…YOU SHOULD GO!

‘West Of Eastward’ is due for release in December of 2009, with a tour of British Columbia and Ontario in the fall of 2010. ‘Won’t Be A Wallflower Tonight’ will be the first single to radio stations in addition with a music video to slam-a-rama  social networking sites and television.

"Gifted songwriter/performer-Boulay is one to watch, he will turn heads and perk ears"

Kenny Brewster, 102 the Fox Radio-North Bay

"Boulay's stage performance is on par with Jack White and is always on and giving 100%-He'll look you in the eyes and let you know he's right there with you"
Kristine Lukanchoff, Fmr Assistant/Road Manger to Jane Siberry
