Bluebox (aka Bluebox Band) is a progressive fusion instrumental ensemble, with years of playing chemistry that dates back to the 1980's in various bands of all types. Most notable of the earlier projects were Power Surgeon and Midnite Gallop, to the development of the Bluebox sound. “I have recently had the opportunity to listen to Blue Box "Outside the Box" and must say, I enjoyed it immensely. Not like other keyboard trios that I have heard in the past, these guys are keys, drums and bass. Not having a guitar concerned me, until I listened to the CD. Dave plays the bass as both a rhythm instrument and a melodic instrument. A great example of this is the intro to Where's the Chocolate?
Though very original, I caught hints of The Dead, ELP and Yes.
The musicianship is superb, Jim, Mick and Dave have this down. They play off of each other like they know were each others improvisation is going. There is a lot of room in the music, it never feels forced and always follows a path that is melodic and interesting.
Though I have only listened to the CD twice, I look forward to many more listens, finding new sonic experiences in each one.”
