Bishop ‘The Gambling Man' Brigante – Biography
Already a seasoned player in the Canadian hip hop industry, Bishop 'The Gambling Man' Brigante is no stranger to staying on top of his game. His relentless thirst for competition and high stakes inspired Calvin Ayre, the original gambling man and CEO of Bodog Entertainment, to sign Bishop and "go all in" behind the charismatic emcee's highly anticipated label debut 'The Life of a Gambler', scheduled to hit the streets nationwide in the Fall of 2007.
Bishop's versatile sound embodies the best elements of hip hop, including everything from infectious club-banger hooks to intricate tales of life growing up in the crime-ridden neighborhood of Scarborough, Ontario. These key ingredients combined with Bishop's preference for West Coast beats and East Coast flow, make any track this multi-dimensional hip hop artist brings to the table a jackpot contender. His Peruvian blood line sets the rhythm for his outreach into other genres as well and encourages his dabbling in the world of Reggaeton.
As a budding emcee, Bishop was quick to demonstrate his raw talent by remaining undefeated on 'Eat the Beat' the phone-in freestyle battle on DJ X's Toronto radio show 'The Power Move'. Bishop then stepped to the stage to win countless live battles on the Toronto freestyle circuit, eventually leading to his ground breaking appearance (and three week reign) as the first and only Canadian emcee to compete on 'Freestyle Fridays' a cut-throat competition on BET's popular countdown show, '106 & Park'. His unbeatable track record, combined with hard work and desire to succeed, demonstrated by selling thousands of his own CDs on the streets, made Bishop realize that he was destined to make a name for himself in hip hop.
After gaining respect underground, Bishop graduated to widespread distribution of his work with inclusion on various nationally released compilations and mix tapes, in addition to collaborations with fellow Canadian emcee Choclair, and hip hop legends Sticky Fingaz and MC Lyte. Bishop then took his skills to the spotlight across the country by opening for such hip hop heavy-hitters as Busta Rhymes, G Unit, The Game, and Mobb Deep.
Bishop demonstrated his versatility when his stage presence and charisma landed him cameo TV roles on CBC's 'Drop The Beat' and UPN's 'Platinum', as well as a big screen debut in the critically acclaimed feature film 'NARC' with Ray Liotta and Jason Patric. Bishop's music videos, 'That's The Way', '6 Up' and 'About 2 Change', all boasted heavy Much Music and MTV rotation, and 'About 2 Change' claimed 'Best Video of the Year' at the Urban World Film Festival in New York. Bishop is also credited for Bodog's first hip hop anthem 'Wild Card', the theme song for 'Calvin Ayer Wild Card Poker' on Fox Sportsnet.
With such an impressive resume of accomplishments in the rap game, expect nothing short of a masterpiece with the upcoming release of 'The Life of a Gambler', which will feature several collaborations with other hip hop high rollers. The legendary Snoop Dogg is a confirmed guest on the album, and the infectious first single 'It's Fo' Twenty' features the hook master himself, Nate Dogg. Having already proven himself time and time again on the national home front, watch for Bishop 'The Gambling Man' Brigante to raise the stakes and give the international hip hop game a run for its money.
