Q: Listened to allot of your stuff on limebooth, and you have a variety of sounds within your songs, how do you go about writing?? Is it planned or impulsive??
A: Hi Carl, really sorry not have got back to you sooner - I have only just found this part of RN! Firstly, thanks for the interest, as always. Usually, the song is impulsive. You know what, I actually don't listen to as much music as some of my musical friends do - certainly my knowledge of more obscure tracks and band is more limited than some. I actually think this might help though, as I try not to think about any particular style or genre when I write - I stum some chords, throw in any old words, and see what story develops. I have three main avenues to put music through - solo (more melodic, acoustic stuff), Badger's Gifts the band (the rock indie music that really needs the instruments), and now a new, side project called 'out of time', which relates to music I am writing with producer Mark Duffield - he has some tracks here too. Out of Time is intended for the quirky stuff - Marks production style is very electronic - if you are interested in the Out of Time music - have a listen to 'Driven Mad' on SC - I'll try to upload it here, but I appear to have reached my limit or something as new songs wont upload. In essence though, my songs start with a few chords, then get words sung over the top - eight times out of ten, those words will end up finding a place in the finished song. If you ever fancy writing something together give me a shout - our two styles are apparently very different (on the surface), so what might emerge could be really interesting!! Once again, thanks again for all your interest my friend!! :o) Toby
