About

It always depends on the perspective: For the Germans Bergitta Victor is the "singer from the Seychelles," the Swiss, however, describe her as "the German". Bergitta has a tumultuous biography - born in the Seychelles, she spent a part of her youth in Tanzania and in Switzerland. Today, the artist lives in Berlin and describes herself as "Bergitta Victor, the singer."

Although she might seem to be rather quiet and restrained, she lives out her bright and humorous side on stage. Her speech is always personal; her lyrics tell about personal experiences and the intensive observation of other people. Here she shows no fear, puts out feelers into all kinds of directions. "It is," she bluntly confesses, "sometimes a kind of an emotional striptease what happens on stage!"

Bergitta became gradually acquainted with the German language; on her new CD "Sesel” she is also presenting German texts without simply copying the current hype of German pop music: “German is a beautiful language”, she explains her newly-discovered preference. "It is also a very exciting language – but you have to take the time to discover it!"

The Seychelles may be Bergittas emotional home, but what she calls "home" is the place where she has "a roof over her head". Currently this is Berlin. Here she found the musicians that help her to realize her vision of music. (..) Here she has won over a fan base, which shares the desire for change, hunger and curiosity in her music. And Bergitta Victor is finding joy in satisfying this curiosity, which is also her own.

Bergitta is not only singing in German, English and Seselwa, she’s also feeling at home in various genres. From calypso rhythms to funk beats, the little woman with the big afro and the even bigger, massive voice has a tremendous energy – live and also on CD. Her performances are verifying stage presence, humour and the ability to carry away the audience. One time her music grooves and swings in a jazzy way, then briefly touches funk and black music and then smoothly and cuddly basks in a mellow mood. In short, Bergitta Victor can do everything. And she wants to experiment, always looking for the new. On August 28 Bergittas debut album “Sesel” will be released on Jazzhaus Records.
