The Short Version:
Beltaine's Fire is a five-piece Celtic Hip Hop Fusion project based in the San Francisco Bay area. Our sound blends melodies inspired by the music of the Irish and Scottish diasporas with funk, rock, and hip hop elements.
The Long Version:
There is a space where the protest songs of the Irish and Scottish rebel bards and the directness and passion of conscious hip-hop music intersect. Beltaine's Fire occupies that space.
American roots music was born out of fusion between african and celtic musical traditions, brought here by immigrants fleeing starvation, genocide, and empire on the one hand and by slaves forcibly dragged from their homelands on the other. The melding of those two artistic and musical traditions is at the root of virtually all american music - from bluegrass to the blues, jazz, rock, country, folk, and even hip hop. Beltaine's Fire goes to the roots of this tradition of fusion and recombines the pieces in a new way to create a sound unlike anything you've heard before, something simultaneously original and traditional, brand new and ancient.
