About
Songs can capture great moments... they take an advantage of our time of excitement, happiness, mourning, fragility, consciousness, our "being or non-being" self. dont we ever sing alone when we are sure noone can hear us somewhere? or dont we sing loud to make the sound crash the lungs with emotiion and even share it with the ones who really CARE? whether it sounds terrible or charming.
They do capture memories... they can be shaped in a body in which you can be trapped with passion, compassion and excitement. they are THERE for a simple telling of a secret. they are HERE to make up a new story with your own approaches. When there is a perfect harmony with your heart beat and the melody, when it makes you breath faster just for only a SECOND, you are in a different angle. In the center of an unknown dimension with non-possibilities of existence.
WhO is the "I"?
"I" was born in 15th of May 1981 in Nicosia of North Cyprus. While I was trying to learn how to read and write around 3 years, I was given a birthday present, a very tiny little keyboard toy, by a relative... which my fingers got stuck on till my father bought a "real" piano in a few years... Having taken piano lessons very young age, I took several exams done by Royal School of London executives, until they found out that I was playing the pieces not by reading the notes but just learning by heart and ear. Jale Dervish, my piano teacher realized that I was hopeless and stubborn and decided to make a "reconciliation" of notes and me by encouraging me to compose new songs... So in order to make her play, I had to write the notes in a proper way.
Of course, it didn't work..But since then, I have been playing and composing. I studied at Turk Maarif College(my high school) having the first attempts to form a group made of 3 people with vocals, classic guitar and piano. So it was the first time with a group to perform on stage with a very simple and limited repertoire. In 1999 I went to Turkey to study Literature at Bilkent University, spending my free time at the conservatoire being chased by security while I was trying to find an empty room to sweep in to touch the keys of a piano...(it was not allowed to enter the studios of students at the conservatoire)...
During that period, I met amazing, talented professional and amateur musicians who were really committed and gifted... Offered to sing in a flamenco group, I started to sing in Spanish and then turned to another genre which was completely different. I would like to thank Okan, Bora and Gokhan for their support to convince me to sing, for I always hated singing. they gave me enough courage and support to raise my voice other than playing the piano.
In 2003 another band was formed named Alibaba Londra'da... A young, energetic and lively ska group in Ankara also gave me the opportunity to work with 8 people, and "taste" the sweet and sour of synchronizing... Murat(bass),Doğuş(guitar),Evren(guitar),Kayahan(drums),Deniz (Vocals),Otar(accordeon),Deniz(trumpet) and Aysun(keyboard&percussion) formed an alternative sound for the festival in May 2004.
Then I continued to make music individually by using several software programmes... still, I am...so far I have over 30 songs that I say "final" and many others whom I am still working on...
