For a band that's been together for such a time you'd be forgiven for thinking Avalon Way might of given up the ghost by now but six years since there inception they're more fired up than ever.
"About six years I think?" comments Ric thoughtfully, counting the numbers in his head. "Yea, but me and Matt have known each other for a lot longer. We were in our first band together! Back in the day" says Rik, singer and guitarist. Matt, drummer and Chris, newest member and bassist, complete the line-up.
Hailing from Darwen, Lancashire, the four piece have been around the block and then some; calling at ports across the UK with stories to tell and names to check a plenty. Yet for a band with such a history it's their recent works and escapades that are causing a stir among the local scene.
They've recently been busy producing a new EP released this spring. "We're all really excited about the new record; it's the record we've wanted to make since the beginning.” Announces Rik, “The songs are some of the best we've ever done and are completely fresh. We did some of the writing in the studio rather than working from demos and previous recordings.” “They were completely new songs which helped the recording process become more of an organic writing session rather than formulaic button twiddling” Added Chris.
Produced by local music mogul Mark Jones the EP, titled “We Are...” is polished and un-shamefully honest. It has a unique lyrical depth and the songs are driven with sometimes unpredictable force. It's clear these songs are works beyond most bands. Not only do the band write stunning songs but the delivery of their music on the live circuit is enough to rival any stadium band.
“In honesty I think it's mainly the fact we enjoy playing live so much that makes our show stand out. Like when a group of people are having a laugh you can't help but be interested in what they're doing. It's much the same principle except we tend to suck people in so they can enjoy it too.” Ric describes, “We've even had stage invasions, so much so we couldn't move enough to play properly. That's the point you realise how much people enjoy it.”
“We Are...” is a bold statement that is sure to stand out as a musical landmark for the group and is most definitely a record worthy enough to be called the turning point in Avalon Ways rise to the top. Get your copy now.
