About
Formed in 2004, Ashdowne have always contrived to radiate a sound which portrays ambience along with catchy distinctive melodies and guitar driven eclectic overtones.
Playing to the ever faithful crowds in and around their home town of Leicester, they quickly established themselves on the local scene, winning the 'Battle of the Bands' two years consecutively leading to a string of national gigs and festivals, including venues such as The Cavern, The Halfmoon, Roadmenders and The Charlotte, where they supported the likes of Speedway, Morning Runner and The Subways.
After building their own recording studio at the back of an old industrial estate in Leicester the band soon got to work on recording their own demos and finding the sound which would help set them apart from the current, stripped, guitar pop bands.
It wasn't long before one of their demos captured the attention of a management team consisting of two brothers from London, Chris and Steve Sutton. “Chris has twenty years of experience in the music industry, says guitarist Andy Kempin, both internationally and in the UK. He has appeared as either a producer/vocalist or songwriter with legendary names such as Paul Mc Cartney, Starship, Mark Knopfler, Dennis Lambert, Smokey Robinson, Marshall Jefferson and more recently with Lucie Silvas. He seems to hold the same vision and understand Ashdownes potential so to have him produce our first album will be nothing but beneficial to us”.
With this experience behind the band they soon decided to get to work on their debut album ‘A Warning to the Curious', recording the majority of the tracks in their own studio back in Leicester. Strings, pianos, French horns and even samples from world war two news reports along with the odd angelic female vocal were also added to help the ambient and epic production that the band had strived for from the very beginning.
With the album now complete both the band and the management team have every faith in its success and are hoping to secure a distribution deal in the near future.
"This band has the potential of breaking the world market. With the unique and definitive vocal style of front man Lee Wakeling and the undeniable strength of their arrangements, live performances, songs and productions,. Ashdowne are a band not to be missed and in todays over saturated market, still remain a cut above the rest". Jack Chamberlain (Independent Review).
