“Ascent is one of those bands that, seems to blend many things that would seem to be very dissimilar such as hope and despair, rock and jazz, or love and pain into a frothy mix that just works. It might be because the two individuals of the band Bruce and Christina Baldwin are not just band members but a long term couple that makes it come together so well but whatever it might be I like it. This shines forth on tracks like Adaptation which tells the story of how life and love grows and changes throughout the years. The band also expands their reach to speak about the things they see in the world that are wrong like the track talking in Circles which talks about how the world is full of people who only talk but never listen. All this depth to the lyrics does not stop the CD from being a great listen which can be enjoyed on a many levels. Overall the album is a must have for people who like their melodies and lyrics enriched with equal parts light and darkness.”
