About
Asbestos was a metal band from Kilgore, TX that ran its course from 1997 to 2002. Asbestos' music is a blend of all things heavy. The band started in 1997 when Chris Ott, Garrett Schleier, Jeff Leppert and Brian Johnson combined their talents to form a brand new kind of band for tiny Kilgore. Chris supplied some incredibly diverse and innovative guitar sounds, (and some non-sounds) that made the music very recognizable and original. Garrett, the youngest of the group by far, was the drummer and was gifted beyond his age. Jeff, the original bass player, owned a bass. And Brian could scream and growl like the devil himself. After a few performances the band made one addition: Andrew Farrow, who found his place as the backbone of Asbestos' guttural sound. His contribution of heavy, consistent rhythm guitar and his outstanding riff writing finally made Asbestos whole.
Asbestos was born out of a badass East Texas music scene that included Myra Mains, Engine No. 9, Stink!#Bug, Clutch Cargo, Dead Industry, and Model #777 just to name a few.
Asbestos produced two albums: Asbestos-Self Titled (1997) and Asbestos-The Death of Reason (2002). They also had several songs appear on compilations like Centenary University's 'Pandora'.
The members of Asbestos have gone their separate ways but their music lives on and is always available to the people who are willing to let Asbestos enter and infect their lives.
