Motor Honey Bio
Hailing from the Detroit area, Motor Honey’s Indie/Rock style incorporates all of the Motor City’s stylings from Rock and Motown, to Blues, Soul and Funk. Equally at home playing clubs such as Dick O’Dow’s in Birmingham, Silky's Martini & Music Cafe' in Dearborn, and Dino’s in Ferndale, to larger venues such as Memphis Smoke in Royal Oak, and The Crofoot Ballroom in Pontiac, as well as outdoor festivals like the Berkley Art Bash, Birmingham Day on the Town, Royal Oaks Arts Beats & Eats, Detroit's River Days to the Downtown Winter Blast or the Oxford Hot Blues and BBQ Festival, Motor Honey has built a devoted fan base throughout the Metro Detroit area.
Veterans of local, well known bands, the rhythm section comprised of Paul Marvin on Bass, and Dave Jeffries on Drums hold down the groove, while Norm McIntyre lays out some tasty leads and rhythm guitar. With the musical foundation set, Saxman Mark Lane adds his high energy horns and sultry licks to the Motor Honey faves. Sara Covatta sings with a lot of muscle behind her voice like the old rockin' blues singers used to. When she sings about love, you feel love, when she sings about pain, you feel the pain.
We cover a pretty broad spectrum of music styles and eras in our show--there really is something for everyone to identify with in our sets. We want the audience to stay, have a great time, and come to our next show, and our songs are picked to do that. We are just as comfortable playing Johnny Cash as we are playing Stevie Wonder's hits, the Red Hot Chili Peppers, or current rock/alt faves from One Eskimo, Nora Jones, or Kid Rock.
In August 2010 we released 6 songs off of our first CD recorded at Studio A in Dearborn.
In our original material, one could hear influences from Stevie Ray Vaughn, Lucinda Williams, with a funky rhythm section ala James Brown, or Stevie Wonder. Great songwriting, infectious grooves, and catchy riffs have our CD flying off the vendor table at our gigs.
